The Clinical Psychologist ( PhD) is an essential member of the Senior's Health Care Program within the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care portfolio of Nova Scotia Health Authority. Psychologists are responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of services as well as the education and supervision of students. Nova Scotia Health Authority offers a CPA accredited pre-doctoral internship program in Clinical Psychology. The Psychologist provides assessment, intervention, teaching, research, and consultative services within an interdisciplinary approach to clinical care, and works collaboratively with the Inter-professional team.

The primary focus of the service will be based in the psychosocial needs of individuals and their families receiving services through the Senior’s Health and Geriatric Medicine programs, located at the Centre for the Health Care of the Elderly, Central Zone, NSHA. The successful candidate will be required to provide neuropsychological assessment and interventions and make treatment recommendations to other members of the health care team as well as other health care providers. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide support to the development of programs as part of the Provincial Dementia Strategy.

The Psychologist may be required to provide services throughout the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care Services portfolio.


Doctoral degree from a recognized, accredited program in either Clinical Psychology or Neuropsychology with a strong rehabilitation or clinical health psychology background, including a one-year accredited clinical pre-doctoral internship is required
Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP) is required
Formal training and clinical experience conducting neuropsychological assessments, psychological interventions and consultation is required
Familiarity with behavioral or rehabilitation programming preferred
Demonstrated experience and expertise in formulating and implementing intervention plans would be an asset
A minimum of 2 years training and experience would be an asset
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in program evaluation and clinical research would be an asset
Experience working in related areas of practice would be an asset
Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours of Work

  • Long-assignment, part-time (50%) position; 37.5 hours biweekly
  • Beginning approximately June 3, 2019 until August 28, 2020 (15 months)
  • Dates are approximate and subject to change
Salary Information

$45.9701- $57.5389 hourly
