Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Unit Manager, Bone and Joint Clinic, the Central Access and Triage (CAT) RN will be responsible for facilitating appropriate triage of incoming referrals through review and assessment of the information provided and gathering of additional information as required. The RN will assess urgency and appropriateness of referrals, triage patients to ensure timely and appropriate appointments based on patient/family needs (under direction of orthopedic surgeon). Coordinates the overall functioning of the central referral and triage process and serves as a resource for clerical staff. The RN acts as a liaison between the central access office and the department of orthopedic surgery. The RN liaises with Primary Care Physicians and referral agents to facilitate and expedite the referral process. This is a self-directed position that functions in a clinical role as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team. This position will coordinate/ be cross trained in the care for orthopedic patients in the ambulatory clinic setting in addition to referral management. They will work with the multidisciplinary team to optimize surgical and nonsurgical outcomes for patients by assisting/working with the arthroplasty clinic case managers in leading the surgical optimization team and the effective coordination of the pre- and post-surgical management of clients.

Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of recent acute care experience is required. Minimum 3 years (within the last 5) of recent acute care orthopedic nursing experience required. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail required. Demonstrated clinical assessment and leadership skills required. Demonstrated strong decision making skills required. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and able to problem solve using sound clinical judgment required. Personal computer knowledge and proficiency required (MS Office, Email). Self-directed and able to work independently when appropriate. Experience coordinating patient care across a continuum. Experience working with members of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management and organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge of Orthopedic diseases, disorders, procedures and treatment protocols preferred. Previous case manager / clinician experience preferred. Current ambulatory / outpatient clinic experience preferred. Telephone assessment and triage experience and skills preferred. Experience with generating and presenting data. Current experience with hip and knee care path preferred.
