THE OPPORTUNITY
Asigra seeks a dynamic Vice President of Engineering & Development to collaborate closely with the CEO, CTO and product team in steering the company's technical trajectory. This role is critical in leading Asigra’s development teams through a period of significant transformation and innovation. The VP of Engineering & Development will oversee the development of Asigra’s next-generation backup solutions and ensure the successful launch and ongoing evolution of these products. This role requires a visionary leader with deep technical acumen, strong strategic insight, and a proven track record in managing large- scale, complex software projects, particularly within the backup or SaaS industries.
The Role & Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Partner with the CTO & product team to define and drive the technical direction of Asigra. Provide thought leadership in shaping the technology landscape, ensuring alignment with the company’s business objectives, and preparing the team for future challenges.
- Leadership in SaaS Development: Lead the development efforts of Asigra’s products, including the highly anticipated SaaSAssure product, overseeing architectural aspects, functionality, and deployment. Utilize experience in SaaS and backup solution development to create robust and innovative products.
- Agile Transformation: Transition the development team towards fully Agile operations, ensuring the team is well-equipped to handle the complexities of building new and untested solutions from scratch.
- Project Execution and Oversight: Guide the execution of technical tasks on various projects, ensuring they align with the overall technical vision. Attend meetings on behalf of the CTO to provide technical insights, recommendations, and updates.
- Technical Acumen & Innovation: Undertake in-depth technical research to solve complex problems, staying abreast of emerging technologies. Lead the integration of Machine Learning (ML) and other advanced technologies into future product functionalities.
- Team Management & Collaboration: Manage a large and geographically distributed development team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Ensure effective communication and collaboration between engineering and other departments, particularly product management.
- Decisiveness & Problem Solving: Lead decisively in high-pressure situations, anticipate challenges, and proactively address them to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in a senior technical leadership role, preferably in the backup or SaaS industries. Proven track record in managing large-scale, complex software projects, including international teams.
- Deep understanding of Agile methodologies with experience driving teams towards fully Agile operations in high-complexity environments.
- Strong background in Java development, REST APIs, microservice architectures, and AWS. Proficiency in assessing code quality, architecture, and development practices.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to bridge engineering and product management, and effectively collaborate with strong personalities.
- Ability to lead with decisiveness and conviction while fostering a collaborative environment. A visionary leader capable of preparing the team for future challenges.
- Experience in the backup or SaaS industries, with familiarity with competitors like Veeam, Datto, or similar companies.
- Experience managing distributed teams, particularly those located internationally, with the ability to mentor and develop junior developers.
