Genetic Counsellor

The Genetic Counselor is responsible for providing genetics counseling to individuals, families and groups using knowledge of human genetics, anatomy, physiology, psychology, human growth and development, medical interventions and applying clinical skills by applying clinical skills including interviewing, counseling and provision of emotional support.

Master’s Degree in Genetics Counselling or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Board certified or Board eligible with Canadian Association of Genetic Counselors.
Member in good standing with health related professional college
Three to five years clinical experience preferred
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and strong problem solving skills
Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, research and other relevant information
Ability to work effectively with others
Ability to conduct and apply research, prepare reports, and deliver lectures/presentations as required.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to network and interact effectively with multidisciplinary team, as well as members of community.
Ability to adapt to new, different or changing requirements
Ability to manager workload
Demonstrated ability to function autonomously
Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of multiple software programs ie. Meditech, Microsoft Office, Excel
Demonstrated good attendance with ability to maintain this standard.
