The Job
Zodiac Hurricane has an opening for a Marine Electrical Designer with an Intermediate level of experience designing complex marine systems. Ideally, the candidate would have notable experience and expertise designing and integrating Navigational and Communication (NavCom) systems on high-speed boats ranging from 5m to 13m (16ft to 42ft). This position is permanent, full-time.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
Safety First! Ensure compliance with all safety and ISO standards and policies;
Design and Development:
- Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the Zodiac Hurricane product and associated engineering design standards and best practises;
- Develop "Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat" RHIB electrical designs based on customer requirements, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines;
- Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create electrical schematics and electronic component lay-out and configuration designs;
- Be capable of configuring and integrating NavCom and Boat Systems such as:
- Radios and Intercoms
- Radars and Location Systems (AIS, GIS)
- Onboard Computers, Screens and User Interfaces
- Specialized Software
- Antenna Systems (Interference)
- Power and Communications Wiring
- 12-24 V DC Power Distribution, Batteries and Breakers
- Specialized Camera Technologies (IR)
- Participate with research and product development efforts as required;
Technical Documentation:
- Create, update and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, drawings, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs);
- Create, update and maintain various project documentation including progress reports and design reports;
- Ensure accurate documentation of design changes, revisions, and updates throughout the boat design and development process;
- Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams to provide design guidance and resolve any design-related issues during production;
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, procurement, and quality assurance, to ensure the successful implementation of boat design into production;
- Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and external partners to source components and materials, review technical specifications, and ensure design compatibility;
- Communicate design concepts, technical details, and project updates effectively to stakeholders, including management, clients, and regulatory authorities;
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in boat design and engineering;
- Identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency improvements, and cost reduction in the boat design and development process;
- Contribute to the development and implementation of design standards, processes, and tools to improve quality and efficiency;
- Document lessons learned and make recommendations for continuous improvements with the Engineering Department and the Company overall to improve quality and efficiency.
Qualifications and Requirements:
The successful candidate will hold the following qualifications:
- Completed post-secondary engineering or design-oriented equivalent education related to electrical, electronics, mechatronics and/or marine systems
- Five (5) years of progressive experience in the boat-building industry or combined with other marine manufacturing or production experience
- Excellent customer service focus including strong communication skills in a professional and respectful manner with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot and make decisions. Ability to prioritize and set clear objectives while working effectively and independently in a high-performance team culture
- Ability to multitask, be well-organized and detail-oriented, coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams and different stakeholders while operating in a fast-paced and demanding environment managing multiple tasks and projects
- Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English (French is a benefit)
- Intermediate level of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software experience (specifically AutoCAD), and/or an equivalent
- Intermediate level standard software experience including MS Office suite (and ideally an ERP system).
