Jr. Sous Chef — The Oxley
The Oxley is seeking a driven, seasoned, and dedicated Jr. Sous Chef to join our kitchen brigade.
Rooted in classic culinary techniques — but not limited by them — our team produces a fully from-scratch menu that confidently serves everyone from the light snacker to the gastronomic diner. Our dishes are thoughtful, creative, and grounded in quality and substance.
Schedule & Structure
- Full-time, 5 days on / 2 days off (always back-to-back)
- Alternating AM/PM weeks shared with the Sous Chef
- Structured environment with clear expectations, consistency, and support
Who We’re Looking For
This role requires a strong, experienced cook capable of leading the line during service and supporting the Head Chef and Sous Chef with daily kitchen operations.
If you do not have at least five years of professional line-cook experience, this will not be the right Sous Chef position.
Responsibilities
As Jr. Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Sous Chef and Head Chef to help manage daily kitchen operations, including:
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead the kitchen team in the Chef’s absence
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior cooks
- Support training and onboarding of new kitchen staff
Service & Execution
- Lead the line during service with confidence
- Ensure all dishes meet The Oxley’s standards for quality, consistency, and presentation
- Maintain stations, mise en place, and workflow for peak service hours
Prep, Production & Quality Control
- Ensure proper FIFO rotation and maintain dated, organized storage
- Oversee stock levels and ingredient management
- Monitor food freshness, prep quality, and recipe accuracy
Ordering, Systems & Efficiency
- Assist with ordering, inventory tracking, and waste reduction
- Work with management to maintain budgets and improve systems
- Verify that storage units and food safety practices meet standards
Menu Development & Collaboration
- Assist the Head Chef with menu creation and seasonal updates
- Contribute ideas while supporting the overall culinary vision
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years cooking experience (required)
- Formal culinary training preferred
- Strong foundation in classic and modern techniques
- Deep knowledge of kitchen operations, food quality, and service execution
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work calmly under pressure
- Positive, self-motivated, team-focused attitude
- Understanding of restaurant safety regulations and best practices
