Position Overview:
We are seeking a diligent and motivated Junior Estimator to join our team. The Junior Estimator will assist the estimating team with day-to-day estimating and project initiatives, including participation in the estimate review and bid wrap-up process. This role is based in our Maple Ridge office and offers an excellent opportunity for career growth in the field of estimating.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimation Support:
- Provide support to the estimating team in establishing and reviewing the scope of work in project documents.
- Send out Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and communicate with subcontractors and suppliers throughout the tender period.
- Identify all costs, including bonding and insurance.
- Prepare quotation letters and proposals.
- Analyze and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Prepare takeoffs, source materials and subcontractors, and complete bids.
Bid Preparation and Review:
- Review drawings and specifications of bids.
- Prepare job bids in a timely manner.
- Support the project transition process from bid award to project management team takeover.
- Track tender closing dates and the status of awards post-tender.
- Download and organize tender documents and drawings.
- Review tender documents to confirm project requirements, scope of work, and other details.
Project Coordination:
- Track correspondence, daily job costs, and update schedules as needed.
- Maintain and update an accurate bid list.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Estimator.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and/or estimating.
- 1 to 2 years of estimating experience is an asset.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in a general contracting environment is an asset.
- Previous project coordination or administration experience is highly desirable.
- Exposure to mechanical, civil, and structural drawings; ability to read P&ID drawings.
- Knowledge of various welding processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of the BC Building Code, Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD), and Canadian Construction Association Standards.
- Competency in using key office software and productivity tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).
- Knowledge of or experience with B2W Estimating Software is an asset.
- Design-Build experience is an asset
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to understand and interpret detailed project specifications, supplementary specifications, and industry standards.
- Capability to work independently and cohesively with senior management.
Working Conditions:
- This position is primarily office-based with some potential for site visits.
- Flexibility to work extended hours to meet project deadlines may be required.
- Must have a reliable means of transportation, as there is no public transit to the office location.
- Must be comfortable working in a dog-friendly office.
