We're Hiring! Based in Sooke, West Coast Outdoor Adventure Ltd provides unique Hobie pedal/paddle/sail kayaks, Stand Up Paddleboards, Surfboard and Bike rentals for locals and tourists to explore the Sooke area. This is our 17th year of operation and we anticipate a busy summer season. We have a positions available to join our team for the summer - and maybe beyond. Ideal applicants who meet this criteria will be fit, outgoing and active, have the ability to be upbeat and engaging even at the end of a long day while working outside in the sun. Although some office work will need to be carried out, much of the work will involve assisting guests to and from our dock and the cleaning of equipment. This involves some lifting kayaks from the water on to the dock and carrying of paddleboards to/from the office/shop to the water. Full training will be provided.
Seasonal job 6 - 8 hours a day, 5-6 days on, 2 off*.
Strong Customer service skills - Requires someone engaging, comfortable talking to others both on the phone and in person.
Fast paced, Knowledge of Sooke area important - need to be able to direct customers to bike & hike trails, points of interest, be able to advise on other places to see and things to do etc.
Active lifestyle – be able to demo the product, ie: part of training is a 3-4 hour bike ride to local trails
Good computer skills - Nice to have – some knowledge of products, tides
Duties: Greet customers Assist with rentals – selection of right product, safety run down, collect payment. May provide demos. Provide assistance at the waterfront for customers leaving/returning from kayak/paddle board trips, help them get back on land, clean equipment. Answer phone calls, book tours and rentals; answer questions about services on the phone and in person.
We are hiring for multiple seasonal positions, both full time and part-time, and weekend availability required.
Responsibilities
- Day to day rental operations & sales
- Reservations, check in and payment processing for customers
- Safety briefings and launching rental customers
- Providing information about our local attractions
- Making reservations for rentals and tours
- Ensuring the shop and gear is organized and clean
- Clean, maintain and repair of all equipment

Qualifications
- Interest in the outdoors, nature, and providing exceptional experiences
- Excellent customer service and in-person communication skills
- Experience with a POS system and payment processing (good to have)
- Knowledge of the Sooke area - or willing to get out and explore
- Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC or Paddle Canada certification a BONUS (more $ for guiding)
- First Aid certification preferred - not required
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- Love working outside and being physically active
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Lift approximately up to 50lbs
- Comfortable working on your feet, outside for a 7+ hour shift, in various weather conditions
- A high level of organizational and problem-solving skills
- Available on all stat and holiday weekends
