Overview
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Project Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for projects within the construction and utility infrastructure sectors. This includes evaluating material, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs to support successful project bidding and execution. The Lead Estimator collaborates closely with clients, vendors, engineers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to gather information, assess project requirements, and develop comprehensive estimates that align with project objectives and company standards.
Responsibilities
- Review project drawings, specifications, addendums, and bid requirements to understand scope and risks.
- Prepare and organize pre-bid documentation and perform accurate quantity take-offs.
- Research material, labour, and equipment pricing and obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and pricing breakdowns in accordance with project requirements.
- Collaborate with operations to develop practical, competitive, and cost-effective project solutions.
- Prepare, review, and submit bids within required deadlines.
- Attend bid openings and pre-construction meetings as required.
- Perform all other tasks that support accurate estimating and successful project execution.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- 2+ years of relevant experience (construction or trades industry preferred)
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, scopes of work, and technical specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to build, manage, and analyze spreadsheets.
- Able to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Ability to meet bid deadlines and perform well under time constraints
- Willingness to learn estimating software, internal systems, and company processes
