Survey Assistant
Job description
Foresite is currently offering a 14/7 rotation Survey Assistant position and we are looking to fill this position immediately. The role will be primarily located at Suncor Base Plant where Foresite's office is located. Foresite services clients across the RMWB so job location can vary.
This is a union-based position through the local OE955 and will be subject to good standing members or initiation/registration dues. The benefits to a union-based position are:
- Pension (10% of all ST hours up to a maximum of 50 hours per week)
- Health & Wellness fund ($1.75 on all hours worked)
- Training fund ($0.07 on all hours worked)
- Vacation (4% on all ST hours worked for 1-5 years and 6% on all ST hours worked for 5+ years)
- Holiday (4% on all ST hours worked)
Roles are based on union group ratings with an hourly base rate and calculated gross rate taking these benefits into account:
- Group 4 - Base $35.08 Gross $43.31-44.01 Senior Assistant
- Group 5 - Base $28.56 Gross $35.62-36.19 Junior Assistant
There is a 3-month probationary period for those starting as a Junior Assistant, after 3 months experience as per the OE955 agreement an assistant is promoted to a Senior Assistant.
Overtime will be paid for hours worked over eight (8) in a day or forty-four (44) in a week (Sunday to Saturday).
Hourly Wage and Flight/Housing availability will be dictated based on level of experience and certification.
Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Assist Survey Crew Chief with daily tasks
- Prepare field documentation supported from Crew Chief guidance (morning safety meetings, FLHA’s, safety observations, vehicle inspections, timesheets, field notes & sketches, etc.)
- Ensuring crew truck is fully stocked with flagging, lath, pin flags, nails, spikes, hand tools and survey/safety equipment
- Ensuring crew truck is kept in a clean and presentable manner.
- Fueling and washing truck as needed.
- Carrying equipment/tools/supplies over long distances
- Working remotely in mine and bush conditions in all weather conditions
- Hammering lath and/or spikes for long durations
- Setting up survey equipment and data collector with guidance from Crew Chief
- Collecting field data with guidance from Crew Chief
- Working as part of a team
- Apply these concepts effectively to client requirements
Qualifications:
- Applicants must have 1+ years of experience in the survey field or construction industry
- Applicants must be local to Fort McMurray. This is not a FIFO position.
- Successful completion of a post secondary education program in Geomatics or a related discipline with a concentration in Industrial & Civil Construction Survey is an asset. If not than a willingness to complete the Survey Theory & Calculations program through Northern Lakes College is preferred (union compensates successful completion of each course).
- General knowledge of Surveying methodology/ Surveying experience is considered an asset.
- Experience in civil construction is preferred.
- Proficient with Computer systems and MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- Energy Safety Canada Common Safety Orientation (CSO) is viewed as an asset
- Ground Disturbance, H2S Alive and First Aid is viewed as an asset
- Strong communication skills required
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License (with a clean 5-year abstract)
