Senior Accountant
We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant with 2-3 years’ relevant work experience to join our experienced team of professionals.
This individual will be responsible for providing accounting support to the management team through researching and analyzing accounting data, preparing reports and a variety of tasks related to bookkeeping and tax preparation. Regular communication with clients and their business counterparts is conducted on a frequent basis via phone and email. This individual provides onsite client support from time to time, ensuring that all duties are completed accurately, delivered with high quality and in a timely manner.
Roles & Responsibilities
Year-End Duties
- NTR, Review and Audit engagement preparation and management
- Corporate and personal tax preparation
- Day-to-day and month-end accounting processes
- Preparing asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Reconciling financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information, examining statements to ensure accuracy.
- Summarizing current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
- Recommending and substantiating financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
- Maintaining accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
- Maintaining financial security and client confidence by following internal controls.
- Maintaining file organization, staying on track in order to complete client filing deadlines.
- Compliance with federal, provincial, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, and enforcing adherence to requirements
- Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Contributing to team efforts by accomplishing related results, such as adhering to all deadlines as needed.
Bookkeeping Duties
- Weekly, monthly and periodic financial reporting and analysis
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Preparation and filing of GST, PST and Payroll Remittance
- Directly responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting internally and/or to external accountant
- Preparation of data file and records for year-end external accountant
- Job cost tracking/reporting
- Prepare trial balance of books
- Invoicing
- Data Entry
- Other internal duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- 2 - 3 years’ experience in day to day and month-end accounting processes;
- Understanding of full-cycle accounting, corporate finance and data entry
- Ability to analyze and report research results with accuracy
- Understanding of Canadian legislation and taxation laws
- Keen attention to detail, deadline-oriented, superior time management skills
- Proficiency in client relations and strong communication skills (written & oral)
- Proficiency in accounting software and related programs (MS Office, QB, Sage, MYOB, CaseWare, etc.)
