SNOLAB is Canada’s deep-underground science laboratory, located at a depth of 2
kilometers in Vale’s Creighton Mine near Sudbury, Ontario. The facility supports
world-class astroparticle physics research and has attracted innovative life science
and quantum technology programs. SNOLAB operates in a controlled, air conditioned
clean-room environment, supported by a suite of surface facilities and
laboratories, supported by a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, skilled
tradespeople, technical staff, and support staff.

The Position
The Chemical Technologist will work in the surface and underground clean lab
facilities, will provide chemistry, testing, and assembly support for SNOLAB
operations, and support for research scientists and SNOLAB users.
Successful Chemical Technologist at SNOLAB will:
- Conduct chemical experiments, testing, and analyses using a variety of laboratory techniques, including chemical preparation, spectroscopy, microscopy, and separation methods.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and assist with the development of laboratory equipment, experimental apparatus, and chemical processing systems.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, and samples while maintaining accurate records and analyzing and interpreting experimental and analytical results.
- Maintain the chemistry laboratory, including equipment, inventory, supplies, documentation, housekeeping, and compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards.
- Support environmental monitoring and protection activities, including air and water quality testing, hazardous waste management, and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Develop and maintain laboratory procedures and provide technical chemistry support for specialized projects, including HTiO assay column preparation and underground laboratory operations

Education and Experience:
- A three-year college program in chemical, biochemical, chemical engineering, or closely related discipline.
- Experience with sample preparation and the operation of analytical instruments such as UV-vis, XRF, FTIR, LC, and ICP-MS or similar.
- Experience working in a research laboratory setting.
- Experience conducting data analysis and preparing reports.
- Experience in developing and writing work procedures and checklists.
- Experience in design, setup, and running laboratory test experiments is an
- asset
Salary Range: $74,985 to $83,662
