Role Summary The Accountant is responsible for managing product costing, inventory valuation, and financial analysis, while also overseeing payroll processing and related compliance. This role supports accurate financial reporting, provides insight into cost drivers and operational performance, and ensures payroll is processed accurately and in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The position works closely with operations and leadership to improve cost visibility, maintain strong internal controls, and support overall financial accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management • Maintain accurate product costing, including standard costs, bill of materials, and overhead allocations. • Monitor and analyze cost variances (material, labor, and overhead) and provide actionable insights. • Support inventory valuation and ensure accuracy of inventory records in collaboration with operations. • Participate in and reconcile physical inventory counts. • Analyze production costs and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
Payroll Administration • Process and manage full-cycle payroll, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable legislation and company policies. • Maintain payroll records, including earnings, deductions, and benefits administration. • Reconcile payroll accounts and support month-end and year-end payroll reporting (e.g., T4s and other filings). • Act as a point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and resolve discrepancies as needed.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and payroll. • Prepare and review account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and
completeness. • Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and schedules.
Management Reporting & Analysis • Provide cost analysis and reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making. • Assist with variance analysis related to production, inventory, and labor costs. • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes, particularly in areas of cost and labor planning.
Internal Controls & Compliance • Ensure adherence to internal controls related to costing, inventory, and payroll processes. • Identify and recommend improvements to strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. • Support compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable payroll regulations.
Audit & Tax Support • Assist with audit requirements by preparing schedules and supporting documentation related to inventory, costing, and payroll. • Support year-end processes including financial audit and payroll-related filings.
Process Improvement • Continuously evaluate costing methodologies, payroll processes, and system workflows to improve efficiency and accuracy. • Support system enhancements and ERP utilization (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central).
General Support • Provide cross-functional support to operations, finance, and leadership as needed in a dynamic, growing organization. • Perform other duties as required to support overall business needs.
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
· CPA designation or in progress
· 3-5+ years of experience in cost accounting and/or payroll.
· Strong understanding of inventory, costing methodologies, and payroll practices.
· Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics NAV, SAP, Business Central) NAV preferred.
· Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
Working Conditions
This position is primarily office-based, with regular interaction with operations and production teams. The role involves extended periods of computer-based work. As part of a collaborative, mid-sized organization, there may be occasional requirements to support other departments during peak periods. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, with some flexibility required during payroll cycles, month-end, and inventory counts.

Pay: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
