Job Summary
The Deli Clerk is responsible for providing courteous customer service and supporting the daily operation of the deli department. Duties include preparing, slicing, weighing, packaging, and displaying deli meats, cheeses, and other prepared products while following food safety and handling procedures. Deli Clerks assist customers with product selections, maintain clean and organized work areas, replenish displays, and ensure products are properly labelled and presented. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food quality, and customer service.
Duties
- Greet customers warmly and assist with their deli selections, offering product recommendations and upselling where appropriate
- safely operate the meat and cheese slicers.
- Slice, weigh, package a variety of lunch meats and cheeses to customers satisfaction
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the deli area, including proper food handling and safety procedures
- Operate the scale system accurately
- Restock shelves, display cases, olive wall areas to attract customer attention and maximize sales opportunities
- assist in stock rotation according to training and FIFO
- assist in making store made sandwiches and catering orders as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks, manage time efficiently, and ensure smooth store opening, closing, and daily operations
- Uphold excellent phone etiquette when or answering customer inquiries over the phone
Experience
- Previous retail sales or customer service experience is preferred but not required; enthusiasm and willingness to learn are key!
- Familiarity with Scale systems is an asset but full training will be provided
- Strong communication skills to interact confidently with customers and team members
- Organizational skills to manage product displays, stock levels, and cleanliness standards
- Experience in food service environments will be advantageous for success in this role, especially direct deli experience.

Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
