Hoyme Manufacturing is a CSA-certified manufacturer of motorized dampers, airflow controls, and relay control products for the HVAC industry. We have been building in Camrose for four decades, and our products ship through national wholesale distributors including EMCO, Wolseley, and Bartle & Gibson. We are a small team, roughly ten people, which means the work you do here will be visible, used, and yours.
About the role
Most of our finance and production processes still run on manual steps: invoices assembled by hand, production tracked on paper, payroll processed one entry at a time, and reporting rebuilt in spreadsheets every month. We have an accounting and ERP platform that can do far more than we currently ask of it.
Your job is to close that gap. Over 12 weeks you will map how work actually flows through the business today, then design, configure, and launch automated replacements for the manual steps. By the end of your placement, we expect invoicing to run automatically, production to be tracked digitally through work orders, payroll to run on a documented repeatable workflow, and leadership to see margin, order flow, and cash position on a dashboard instead of waiting for a month-end scramble.
This is a build role, not a support role. You will own projects end to end and present your results to the owner.
What you'll do
- Map current-state processes for order-to-cash, production tracking, and payroll, and identify where manual effort can be eliminated
- Design and implement automated invoicing so invoices generate and issue from the system rather than being assembled by hand
- Build and launch a digital work order system to replace manual production tracking, and train the shop floor on it
- Configure and document a streamlined payroll workflow
- Build management reporting dashboards for margin, order flow, inventory position, and cash, drawing on data already sitting in our accounting system
- Design a repeatable month-end close checklist so the books stay current without heroics
- Write the standard operating procedures and train our team, so the systems keep running after your placement ends
What we're looking for
Required:
- Enrolled in a Canadian college or university program in accounting, finance, commerce, business technology management, management information systems, or a related field
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and working with exported data
- Comfortable learning new software quickly and figuring things out without step-by-step instruction
- Able to write clearly enough that someone else can follow your documentation
- Eligible to work in Canada (Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person)
Preferred:
- Exposure to an accounting or ERP platform such as Sage, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Dynamics, whether through coursework, co-op, or a previous job
- Experience with Power BI, Power Query, or another reporting tool
- Interest in manufacturing, operations, or process improvement
- Any exposure to lean, Six Sigma, or process mapping
You do not need to have done this before. You need to be organized, curious, and willing to ask uncomfortable questions about why things are done the way they are.
Why this is a good placement
- You will own real projects with measurable outcomes you can point to in an interview, not shadow work
- You report directly to the owner, a professional engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt, and you will get direct coaching on process design
- Small company, so you will see the whole business: production, sales, finance, and supply chain
- What you build stays in production after you leave
