The Payroll Specialist processes payroll, enter data, process reports and answer questions related to payroll. The incumbent will also be responsible for HR administration functions. This individual will report to the manager of Payroll in the U.S. with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Canadian HR Business Partner.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for overseeing and processing payroll for approximately 525 employees
Examines and verifies payroll data for accuracy
Maintains accurate records and backup for payroll entries
Process and supply reports for field and management as needed
Answer payroll related questions for employees and management
Assist accounting with any g/l related questions
Oversee and process timesheets on a weekly and bi-weekly basis, ensuring accuracy by addressing any issues or corrections
Upload, maintain and disseminate Record of Employment, RRSP contribution, tax forms, statements, and other reports as required
Responsible for Human Resources and office administration duties as required such as obtaining RRSP documents, courier preparation, office supply ordering, sending bills and documents to the proper manager for approval, and other HR administration functions as assigned
Act as back up for year-end processing
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Must have 3-4 years of related Payroll experience
Prepared and available for travel, as required, within the United States for training and meeting purposes
Experience with data entry, processing and entering employee information in a high volume capacity, maintaining data integrity and understanding of codes within systems i.e., timesheets, deductions, wage types
Must have previous Record of Employee preparation experience
Knowledge of workers’ compensation and employment tax an asset
Previous experience in year-end processing required
Previous experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and payroll software
Experience with Avanti software a definite asset
Excellent understanding and knowledge of all company policies as well as related procedures and systems.
Report preparation and demonstrated ability in reviewing and gathering information
Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills
Problem solving and decision making skills with very close attention to detail
Must be able to work independently without close supervision
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines
