BSc.N Nursing and RN certification in good standings with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Registered Nurse, and member of the College of Nurses of Ontario
CNA certification in psychiatric/ mental health nursing preferred
Minimum three years current experience working in an acute mental health setting (i.e. Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, or Crisis Unit) required
Sound knowledge of mental health disorders, DSM classifications and pertinent mental health legislation required
Sound knowledge of mental status evaluations, psychosocial assessments, suicide and violence risk assessments, psychiatric history taking, and discharge planning
Skilled working with a broad range of client groups and their significant supports
Able to maintain timely and thorough documentation
Working knowledge of community resources
Reliable, flexible and positive team player
Effective interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
Positive work and attendance record
Direct patient care for patients in crisis in the Adult In-Patient Mental Health Units
Responsible and accountable for decisions and actions in the provision and management of nursing care for patients
