Duties, Roles, and Responsibilities
Job Purpose
The employee fulfilling this role is responsible for contributing to the success of the St. Vincent de Paul Stores through their diligence in the following duties and responsibilities) as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
While reporting directly to the Assistant Manager – Retail, the Cashier performs all the following:
Customer Service
· Always be courteous, polite, respectful, and helpful to the customers and those we serve.
· Always be visible on the sales floor.

Colleague Care
· Always be courteous, polite, respectful, and helpful to colleagues and management.
· Ensure you report on time for your scheduled shift.
· Ensure break times are followed and respected.
· Ensure you receive management approval for all shift change requests.
· Always be ready to assist colleagues in other sections, as may be required.
· Assist with development of new hires and cross train other employees, as necessary.
· Maintain a positive, healthy, and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant Manager - Retail, your roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Recommending to the Assistant Manager - Retail, changes that aim to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness of the cash area
- Completing, as may be required from time to time, general retail associate duties
· Ensuring that work area is kept clean, tidy and well stocked with bags and wrapping paper.
· Administering the funds of the organization according to the prescribed policies and procedures.
· Reporting cash related functions and problems to management
- Receiving payment by cash, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits
- Processing transactions on point-of-sale terminals
- Issuing receipts, credits, or change due to customers
- Counting money in cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change
- Computing and record totals of transactions on the Daily Cash Report.
- Bagging, boxing, or wrapping merchandise
- Sorting, counting, and wrapping currency and coins
· Processing merchandise returns and exchanges when authorized by management
· Requesting information or assistance using paging systems
· Compiling and maintaining, as required, non-monetary reports and records.
Required Skills
· Proficiency in the use of cash register operations and point of sale equipment
· Ability to identify high value and designer merchandise
· Strong customer service skills
· Ability to work with minimal supervision
· Ability to communicate effectively
· Strong organizational skills
Experience
· 2 or more years retail cash experience
· 2 or more years of experience in dealing with customers in a retail environment
Working Conditions
· Ability to work in a store environment
· Ability to lift items of a reasonable weight alone and heavier items with assistance.
· Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
· Ability to work a varied schedule which may include working evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.
· Ability to work overtime hours to accommodate extraordinary activities or circumstances as may be necessary.

Ability to commute/relocate:
- Ottawa, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
Experience:
- sales: 1 year (preferred)
- Customer service: 1 year (preferred)
