Job Summary
JumpStart's 4th location, Windermere, is opening soon and we are looking for an energetic preschool teacher for our junior kindergarten preschool program. We are licensed under Alberta Child Care and not under the School Act, thus requiring a level 3 child care supervisor certification. A bachelor of education or Early Childhood Diploma (or equivalent) and experience teaching 3-6 year olds is required. This position is to start job shadowing and training as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
Duties include implementing the JumpStart curriculum program and delivering both whole group and small group lessons. The successful candidate would be responsible for daily lesson plans and collaborating with other classroom teachers and EA's. Our Program is run similar to a Kindergarten classroom as we are not a daycare setting. We follow the Kindergarten Alberta curriculum- knowledge of curriculum outcomes is an asset. Our regular program runs September-June, and we offer summer camps sessions over the summer. This is a year-round position.
The interview process comprises an initial interview, an in-class work interview, and a final formal interview which also includes a written component.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that align with educational standards.
- Educate students in various subjects, including basic literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages exploration and learning.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support each child's development.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback and support as needed.
- Collaborate with special education staff to accommodate the needs of children requiring additional support.
- Utilize technology for classroom management and educational purposes, including computer operation for lesson planning.
- Foster positive relationships with students to promote their emotional well-being.
Skills
- Strong background in early childhood education principles and practices.
- Ability to educate young children effectively while keeping them engaged.
- Proficient in computer operation for educational tools and resources.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with children, parents, and staff.
- Experience working with children in various settings is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education practices is a plus.
- Creative writing skills to develop engaging lesson materials.
- Strong childcare skills to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
Required Qualifications:
- Current CPR level C and First aid
- Alberta Child Care Certification of Child Development Supervisor (formerly Level 3)
- A minimum of two year's experience in Childcare/Classroom
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerability check (dated within 6 months of hiring date)
- B.Ed. or Early Childhood Diploma preferred
- Must live in Canada and be proficient in English, both written and spoken
Compensation:
- Wage range includes base wage plus Alberta child care top up wage, and is commensurate with work experience and education.
