The Lead Reverse Mortgage Underwriter (Lead Underwriter) is responsible for negotiating, recommending, declining, and in some instances, approving reverse mortgage applications within established guidelines, to be secured by new or existing real estate. This must be done as efficiently as possible while exercising sound lending judgment and without compromising service and profitability. The Lead Reverse Mortgage Underwriter has established relationships with key partners (internal and external) and has demonstrated the ability to process applications significantly above peers (i.e. top 10 percentile). In addition, the Lead Reverse Mortgage Underwriter will take a leadership role with training and mentoring Reverse Mortgage Underwriters within the Growth Business Department.
- On a daily basis, incumbents must promptly review received mortgage applications along with supporting documentation and negotiate terms with the mortgage broker, decline the applications, recommend the applications for approval and in some instances, approve the applications. Ensure that approved deals close as scheduled and as efficiently as possible by following up on outstanding conditions/documents and ensuring compliance with established guidelines.

On a regular basis, the incumbent will follow up with brokers on issued mortgage commitments to ensure the efficient closing of mortgage files. As required, assist the Management team with reporting, exception requests, file management, and data integrity requirements.
On a daily basis, provide the highest level of internal and external customer service while fielding mortgage broker inquiries and maintaining strong key broker relationships. The incumbent has demonstrated the ability to manage and support high-volume broker partners while continuing to deliver outstanding customer service.
- On a daily basis provide underwriting expertise to mortgage brokers, clients and co-workers and maintain an expert level knowledge of company policies, procedures and products. Provide guidance and training and act as the subject matter expert to more junior employees as required.

As required, support the SFR Business Unit with change management projects by participating in focus groups, training programs and testing initiatives. These projects may require evening and/or weekend commitments.

5-7 years mortgage underwriting experience, in the alternative mortgage market, with 2 years+ of reverse mortgage underwriting experience
