The Departments of Oncology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in partnership with Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute and Ohlson Research Initiative (ORI), at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invite applications for a full-time Tenure Track academic position, at the Assistant Professor level in Precision Oncology and Experimental Therapeutics research.

The successful candidate will join a cancer research environment at the University of Calgary that is rapidly expanding in anticipation of the opening of a New Calgary Cancer Centre (NCCC) in Calgary in 2023. The NCCC will have over 110,000 square feet of purpose built wet and dry research. Areas of research emphasis will include, but are not limited to, molecular and precision oncology and experimental therapeutics, molecular and genomic analysis and research in the area of head and neck cancer. This recruitment will complement a growing emphasis on precision oncology and experimental therapeutics research. Other strengths in the environment are a university-wide genomics and bioinformatics initiative led by the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute, and in addition to Charbonneau, six large health research institutes at the University of Calgary, headquartered within the Cumming School of Medicine.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to building a strong research program as part of the vibrant Precision Oncology and Experimental Therapeutics (POET) program through leading and coordinating efforts to obtain substantial external funding from the CIHR and/or other prestigious national cancer research funding agencies and groups. In addition to leading the POET research effort, the candidate will also serve as the Director of the Tumor Biology and Translational Research program for the ORI with a focus on head and neck cancer research.

Qualifications for appointment at the level of Assistant Professor include a PhD with at least six years of postdoctoral experience in the field of molecular and precision Oncology and research, with additional training/experience in bioinformatics and genome science related to translational and basic Oncology research. A proven track record demonstrating research excellence including a strong publication record with at least 10 peer reviewed publications to date, with the candidate being either first or senior author on approximately half of these, teaching, supervision and established academic engagement/leadership is required. The candidate must have previous experience in supervising students and trainees and scholarship including supervision of graduate students and in the application of molecular science to cancer care and sufficient recognition in their field to contribute to Eyes High Strategy of the University of Calgary.
