CALTRAX is a full service independent railcar repair company providing service in Western Canada from two facilities located in Calgary and Raymond Alberta. We provide full service tank and freight car maintenance and repair, interior lining and cleaning, blast and paint.
Reporting to the Director, Operations, this position will be responsible for the site’s repair requirement, including safety, materials, inventory, coordination and deployment of staff. You must have a drive to succeed, be eager to implement change and ready to support a dynamic and growing team.
Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for ensuring that all employees and operations are in compliance with meeting Caltrax safety, quality, customer and company service goals;
- Review the risks for all field operations and develop procedures to eliminate the risks
- Working collaboratively with other departments to standardized processes and work being performed;
- Develop and manage business relationships with clients and team
- Identify and develop strategies for continuous improvement
- Investigate potential obstacles, gather information and deliver on solutions
- Develop staff through training, career development and coaching
- Responsible for managing the activities of workers engaged in railcar repairs to ensure optimum efficiency and financial welfare of operations
- Responsible for ensuring safe work and efficiency of the location
- Liaise with Customer Service Representative (Mobile) to ensure work order accuracy and timely billing
- Authority to delegate tasks as required.
- Provide disciplinary action as required (e.g. Verbal warning;).
- Key contact for emergency situations.
- Lead accident investigations, safety audits, complete incident reports and report to HSE Manager.
- Determine training requirements for employees.
- Complete employee reviews with HR support
Understand AAR regulations, customer and in house procedures and ensure employees compliance
- Complete necessary inspection documentation, verify documents per customer requirements
- Work closely with Production Manager and QA designee to identify deficiency trends or key areas that require attention and training
- Assist in preparation of annual audit process
- Performing work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Travel to customer locations as required
Requirements and Skills:
- 3 – 5 years’ work related experience
- Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data and trends.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions including blue prints and schematics
- Knowledge of FRA / AAR, industry and customer requirements
- Perform / prioritize multiple tasks with a high attention to detail
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and teamwork
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
