Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) ~ Long Term Care

It is a values-based, client-centric organization that includes 240 long-term care beds, 104 hospital beds, and a variety of outpatient and community support services. The overall staff complement is approximately 700 employees. St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Management Team.
The facility’s most striking feature is its residential section, which is organized in a series of 16 to 18 - bed “neighbourhoods”. The low-rise design emphasizes a friendly, home-like atmosphere as part of our philosophy of resident-centred care, independence, dignity, privacy and choice.
The Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) is an integral member of the Long-Term Care leadership team. Working with the Director of Care (DOC), the Assistant Director of Care provides leadership, direction and education to the department’s clinical staff and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to provide quality, resident-centred care.
The ADOC requires a high level of efficiency, organization, confidentiality, leadership and time management skills, which are essential to carrying out the duties of the position. As the ADOC, you will work in collaboration with the DOC to ensure the smooth safe and effective day-to-day operations of the LTC team and ensure residents are receiving safe, resident-centred care from all members of the LTC staff team. Through your work, you will contribute to the Health Centre’s dedication to achieving excellence in health care.
The ADOC is also responsible for ensuring communication of best practice standards and that they are followed by LTC staff, as well as communicating any changes in policies, processes or procedures. The ADOC works in collaboration with the DOC to create, update and report on annual goals and the Quality Improvement Plan for the Long-Term Care department, making adjustments as required and reflected in the results. The ADOC is also responsible for representing the best interest of the Long-Term Care department on various internal committees as an active participant in meetings and planning groups. In the absence of the Director of Care, the Assistant Director of Care assumes responsibility for the Long-Term Care Department.
A Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
Current registration as a Registered Nurse and a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Comprehensive knowledge of standards set out by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Long-Term Care and College of Nurses
Strong computer skills, including but not limited to Point Click Care, online learning platforms and Microsoft Office
Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to prepare policies and procedures and communicate regarding best practices
Superior planning and management skills
Demonstrated ability to supervise and performance manage a large number of staff providing various levels of nursing and resident centred care
Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate sound decision making, time management, and administrative skills
Self-motivated, results focused and able to follow through on initiatives effectively and efficiently
Ability to prioritize and work efficiently and accurately to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with residents, the public, staff and external service providers
Capacity to create an environment conducive to the well-being of residents
