About Us
Brainworks is an award-winning medical rehabilitation firm. We offer psychological, neuropsychological, psychotherapy, social work, and rehabilitation therapy services in office, in client homes and communities, via secure web interface, and via travelling clinic. Our head office is in Huntsville, Ontario, and we proudly serve communities across Central and Northern Ontario.
We are thrilled to announce that Brainworks is expanding! For the first time, we are adding speech-language pathology to our roster of services — and we are looking for a Speech-Language Pathologist based in Barrie or the surrounding area to join our interdisciplinary rehabilitation team and help grow SLP services across the region.
This is a unique opportunity for an SLP who enjoys neurological rehabilitation and cognitive-communication, but is looking for greater variety and consistency than a traditional single-site community rehabilitation position may offer. The role is built around multiple complementary streams of clinical work — including regular service trips to Northwestern Ontario — allowing the successful candidate to develop a consistent, sustainable caseload while working across different populations, settings, and communities.
A note before you read on: monthly travel to remote Northwestern Ontario communities is a key component of this role. We're looking for a clinician with a genuine passion for Northern and Indigenous community work — if that's you, we think this position offers something few SLP roles can.
The Role
The SLP would provide services through a combination of:
Northern Ontario – Indigenous Community Services A core component of this position. Through our partnership with S.L. Hunter Speechworks, you will participate in monthly service trips to remote Indigenous communities in Northwestern Ontario, providing Speech-Language Pathology services where access is limited and the need is significant. These concentrated service trips provide a consistent, reliable stream of clinical work — and for the right clinician, some of the most meaningful work of their career.
Brainworks – Huntsville & Muskoka Provide SLP assessment and intervention as part of Brainworks' established interdisciplinary rehabilitation services, with an initial emphasis on acquired brain injury, concussion, and other neurological conditions. The clinician would help establish and grow SLP services within the Huntsville office and surrounding communities.
Barrie & Surrounding Area – Community Rehabilitation Provide community-based SLP services to clients in Barrie and surrounding communities. This allows the clinician to maintain a portion of their caseload closer to home while contributing to interdisciplinary rehabilitation services in the region.
Emerging Autism Services As Brainworks explores opportunities to broaden its services, there may also be an opportunity for an interested clinician to help develop autism-related SLP services, including communication, social communication, and AAC assessment and intervention.
Clinical Work May Include
· Cognitive-communication assessment and rehabilitation following ABI, concussion, stroke, and other neurological conditions
· Speech, language, and functional communication assessment and intervention
· Development of compensatory cognitive-communication and executive-functioning strategies
· Client, family, and rehabilitation-team education and training
· Interdisciplinary consultation and case collaboration
· Community-based assessment and treatment
· Clinical documentation and report writing
· Depending on clinician experience and interest, AAC, social communication, and autism-related assessment and intervention
Who We're Looking For
You are an SLP who:
· Is registered and in good standing with CASLPO
· Has a genuine passion for Northern and Indigenous community work, and is excited to travel monthly to Northwestern Ontario communities (a requirement for full-time hours)
· Lives in Barrie or the surrounding area, or is interested in working throughout the Barrie–Muskoka corridor
· Has experience or a strong interest in adult neurorehabilitation, ABI, and cognitive communication
· Values interdisciplinary and functionally focused rehabilitation
· Is committed to equitable and culturally responsive care
· Enjoys some autonomy and is interested in helping develop a growing SLP service
· Is comfortable providing services across office, community, and virtual environments
· Is willing to travel periodically to Huntsville
Experience in ABI, concussion, autism, AAC, paediatrics, and/or Indigenous health services would be an asset, but experience across all of these areas is not required.
A Role Designed for Variety and Sustainability
One of the advantages of this position is the opportunity to build a caseload from several complementary referral streams rather than relying on a single source of work.
Monthly Northern Ontario service trips anchor the caseload with consistent, concentrated clinical work, complemented by local community rehabilitation in Barrie and clinical time in Huntsville. As Brainworks' SLP services develop, there is also potential to participate in new clinical programs and service areas.
This creates an opportunity for consistent income and meaningful clinical variety, while maintaining flexibility in how the clinician structures their schedule. The position can be structured as an employment contract or an independent contractor agreement, depending on your preferences and availability, and mileage is reimbursed for community and travel-based work.
Help Us Build Something
We aren't simply looking to fill an existing SLP position. We're looking for a clinician who would be excited to help shape what Speech-Language Pathology looks like within Brainworks.
The right person will have the support of an established interdisciplinary rehabilitation organization, while having the opportunity to influence how the service grows — clinically, geographically, and across different populations.
Pay: $40.00-$45.00 per hour
Benefits:
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Barrie, ON
