Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and physically capable Shop Helper to join our fabrication team at ABCNC Industries. The ideal candidate will have some prior experience in a shop, manufacturing, or industrial environment and be ready to support day-to-day production operations. This role involves material handling, shop maintenance, and hands-on assistance to skilled fabricators and machine operators. While this is a support position, it offers real opportunity to learn and develop technical skills on advanced equipment including waterjet cutters, CNC press brakes, and other fabrication machinery. The Shop Helper plays an important role in keeping production running smoothly, efficiently, and safely in a fast-paced custom fabrication environment.
Responsibilities
- Handle, move, and organize raw materials including metal sheets, cut parts, and stock
- Break parts out of machined webs and assist with deburring and surface finishing
- Support machine operators and journeymen during fabrication and production tasks
- Keep the shop floor clean, organized, and compliant with safety protocols
- Assist with loading and unloading of materials and finished products
- Learn to operate shop equipment under supervision, including waterjet and press brake machines
- Contribute to quality checks by ensuring parts are properly sorted, labelled, and staged for the next production step
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial shop environment is preferred
- Basic understanding of shop safety practices and general mechanical awareness
- Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and basic measuring devices
- Comfortable working with metal materials including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
- Physical ability to perform manual labour including lifting heavy materials
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player with a good attitude
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely around heavy equipment and machinery
