General Description
Reporting to the Infrastructure and Housing Manager, the Summer Student will support the pre-opening coordination and operational readiness of the Ancient Forest Interpretive Centre in preparation for its soft launch. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that bridges construction completion and the public-facing opening of the facility, requiring strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work across multiple teams and departments.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Completion & Deficiency Management
· Liaise with consultants, vendors, project managers, and site supervisors to monitor the development and identify deficiencies and ensure timely resolution prior to opening.
· Maintain a deficiency tracking log and follow up on outstanding items.
· Coordinate site walkthroughs and inspections with relevant staff and trades.
Facility Readiness & Setup
· Coordinating with the interior setup of the interpretive centre, including signage, exhibits, displays, and interpretive materials.
· Coordinate delivery and installation of furniture, equipment, and visitor amenities.
· Develop and maintain a facility opening checklist to track all pre-launch tasks to completion.
Visitor Experience Preparation
· Help develop visitor management protocols, including flow, signage, and programming schedules.
· Assist with the setup of ticketing, wayfinding, and information resources for visitors.
Qualifications
Education & Credentials
· Currently enrolled in the third or final year of an undergraduate degree in any discipline; OR
· Holder of a college diploma in a related field with demonstrated experience in project coordination, event management, or facilities administration.
Experience
· Previous experience in project coordination, event planning, facilities management, or a related area is an asset.
· Experience working with Indigenous communities or First Nations organizations is considered a strong asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
· Effective written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
· Proficient with standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite).
· Familiarity with project management tools or tracking systems is an asset.
· Valid BC driver’s licence – Class 5

This is a paid summer student position offering $20.00 per hour at 35 hours per week for a period of 8 weeks.
