Job title: Return-to-Work CBT Therapist (Registered Psychotherapist) - Virtual Contract Company: Resolve Psychotherapy
Location: Remote (Canada)
Job type: Contract
Schedule: Flexible, Monday to Friday, daytime availability preferred
Pay: $60 to $110 per session
Work location: Virtual
Job description
Resolve Mental Health is hiring Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) and Quebec-permitted psychotherapists (OPQ) to deliver virtual CBT to clients who are off work on short-term or long-term disability for mental health reasons.
About Resolve
Resolve Mental Health is a Toronto-based psychotherapy practice serving clients across Canada through insurer, legal, and employer referrals. We work with people whose mental health has taken them out of work or out of their lives, and we get them evidence-based treatment with clear goals and clear reporting. Our disability and return-to-work program is growing and we need contractors who know how to do structured, outcome-focused CBT with people who are off work.
The role
You will carry a caseload of clients on STD or LTD, most commonly for depression, anxiety, burnout, adjustment, trauma-related conditions, and chronic pain with psychological overlay. You will deliver time-limited CBT (typically 8 to 16 sessions) aimed at functional recovery and a sustainable return to work, and document it in a way insurers, case managers, and physicians can actually use.
This is not open-ended supportive therapy. Clients arrive with a clear goal, a referral source, and a timeline. You will set measurable targets, track progress with standardized measures, and communicate clearly with the people coordinating the claim.
What you will do
- Conduct intake assessments focused on current functioning, work-related barriers, and readiness for return to work
- Deliver individual CBT with explicit return-to-work goals: behavioural activation, graded exposure, cognitive restructuring, relapse prevention
- Administer standardized measures at intake, midpoint, and discharge (PHQ-9, GAD-7, WSAS or similar)
- Write treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries to insurer and case manager specifications, on time
- Join case conferences with disability case managers, employers, and physicians as needed
- Support graduated return-to-work planning
- Keep clinical records that meet your college's standards and our documentation requirements
Requirements
- Registered and in good standing with CRPO as a Registered Psychotherapist, OR holding a psychotherapy permit from the Ordre des psychologues du Québec
- Formal CBT training and at least 2 years delivering CBT as a primary modality
- Direct experience with clients on STD or LTD, or in insurer-funded, EAP, WSIB, or occupational rehab settings
- Able to write clear third-party reports without hand-holding
- Able to manage a structured, time-limited caseload and hold clients to treatment goals with warmth
- Independent contractor: legally eligible to work in Canada, own professional liability insurance, private and secure space for virtual sessions
Assets
- Graduated return-to-work planning, functional capacity conversations, or workplace accommodation experience
- CBT for chronic pain, CPT or PE for trauma, or behavioural activation protocols
- Familiarity with insurer treatment plan and reporting formats (Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, RBC, Desjardins, WSIB)
- French-English bilingualism or additional languages
What we offer
- Steady referral flow from insurer and employer partners; no need to build your own caseload
- Fee-for-service compensation with paid report-writing time
- Fully virtual; clients are located across Canada
- Set your own availability within our referral windows
- Intake, billing to the payer, and scheduling handled by our operations team
- Templates and measures already built
- Clinical consultation and a peer community doing the same work
This is an independent contractor position. You invoice for sessions and reports completed.
Resolve Mental Health is committed to building a team that reflects the clients we serve. We welcome applications from clinicians of all backgrounds and will provide accommodations throughout the hiring process on request.
