Position Summary
The Machinist is responsible for fabricating high-quality precision parts using a variety of conventional and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, saws, and general shop equipment. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and engineering diagrams to determine production sequences, establish tolerances, and ensure all completed components conform strictly to company and industry specifications. The Machinist is expected to monitor equipment performance, detect malfunctions, maintain a clean workspace, and uphold rigorous safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities

Precision Machine Operation: Set up, program, and operate a variety of conventional and CNC machine tools (including lathes, mills, and saws) to fabricate high-quality, custom precision parts.

Blueprint Interpretation: Read and analyze complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals to determine production sequences, material requirements, and strict tolerance criteria.

Quality Control & Inspection: Verify part dimensions with 100% accuracy using precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and height gauges.

Assembly & Maintenance: Fit and assemble machined components using hand and power tools, and perform routine preventative maintenance on shop equipment.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with supervisors, welders, fabricators, and quality control teams to resolve machining issues and keep production timelines on schedule.
Qualifications & Skills

High School Diploma or equivalent; technical diploma in Machining or a related field is an asset.

Alberta Journeyman Machinist certification, Interprovincial Red Seal, or registered Apprentice in good standing is highly preferred.

2+ years of experience operating conventional and CNC machinery in an industrial manufacturing setting.

Proficiency with precision inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) and machine-level CNC programming (G-code).

Fluent in English (written and verbal); able to follow complex instructions and remain adaptable to shifting production demands or unexpected delays.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Primarily based on-site within an active manufacturing shop floor. The workspace is frequently noisy, requiring strict adherence to hearing protection protocols.

Must possess the manual dexterity required to operate precision machinery and tools. Position requires the physical ability to remain standing for extended periods of time and safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Full compliance with safety standards and the continuous use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety glasses and steel-toed boots, is a mandatory condition of employment.

Must be willing and available to work overtime hours as required by production schedules.
