Writer/Editor

12 Month Contract

As the Writer/Editor for the Communications and Marketing Department, you will be providing linguistic quality control in both English and French. By proofreading content, conducting copy and stylistic editing as well as writing in a journalistic style, your expertise in this area will help the MCC reach its target audience and deliver the intended message. In addition to translating English to French, you will perform comparative reads and make recommendations for new editing standards. As the only Writer/Editor in the Communication and Marketing Department, you will have a deep understanding of writing and editing concepts to support brand identity and content accuracy.

Your key responsibilities would include:

  • Coordinate production of MCC publications, including the corporate Annual Report and newsletters and write news articles, emails blasts, notes to stakeholders and operational procedures.
  • Regularly post, review and collaborate with subject matter experts on updates to publications-related content for the web and for social media, ensuring these adhere to the MCC style guide
  • Complete a thorough review of the Communications and Cultural Competence orientation modules, work with key players and working groups of physicians to identify gaps, areas of improvement and log significant updates requiring refilming
  • Implement promotional campaigns to raise awareness of corporate publications, and write and/or edit corporate materials including (but not limited to) brochures, fact sheets, articles and promotional emails

Qualifications and Experience:

Language:

  • Fluent bilingualism; excellent oral and written skills in both English and French

Education:

  • Post-secondary education in the area of public relations, media relations, marketing, communications or translation, or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience working in a Communications environment
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign and Acrobat Pro and various social media platforms; knowledge of social media engagement strategies is an asset
  • Experience with the development and production of publications

Technical Skills:

  • Strong writer and editor in English and in French
  • Ability to work independently, translate simple texts from English to French and perform comparative reads
  • Journalistic abilities such as researching, analyzing and interviewing skills
  • Ability to adapt the writing style and content of a text to a specific audience, as well as to the intended media/channel for distribution/dissemination
  • Ability to work independently, translate simple texts from English to French and perform comparative reads
  • Excellent knowledge of professional editing standards and practices
  • Strong computer skills and excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with various communications tools and services, content management systems or platforms (WordPress)

Competencies:

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, experience using the Canadian Press Stylebook
  • Ability to research and organize information, multi-task, meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Proven team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors and contractors
