Position Summary
The Outreach Worker is a vital member of the Stepping Stone team, delivering direct support to sex workers in the community during outreach. This role helps build trusting relationships with individuals who may not be able to access our drop-in center and offers support through harm reduction, peer connection, and community referrals.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in two outreach shifts per week to provide in-community support.
- Distribute harm reduction materials, including safer sex and drug use supplies.
- Offer food, clothing, and hygiene supplies to individuals during outreach.
- Provide peer support and build trust-based, nonjudgmental relationships with sex workers.
- Offer referrals and connections to additional supports including housing, mental health, addiction services, legal advocacy, and medical care.
- Support the team in identifying emerging community needs and gaps in services.
- Uphold Stepping Stone’s values and practices of trauma-informed, harm-reduction-centered care.
Qualifications
- Lived experience in sex work ( current/ former) or a strong connection to the community is considered a strong asset.
- ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and First Aid certification are mandatory (or a willingness to complete training at Stepping Stone’s expense).
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must feel comfortable handling and distributing safer drug supplies as part of harm reduction
- Experience working in outreach, social services, or peer support roles preferred.
- Training in harm reduction, peer support, Naloxone administration, and trauma-informed care an asset (or willingness to be trained).
- Ability to work respectfully with diverse communities, including 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, BIPOC individuals, and people who use substances.
- Strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to work in a team.
- A nonjudgmental, compassionate, and grounded approach to care.
Working Conditions
- Must be comfortable spending the majority of the shift seated in a vehicle
- This role may involve exposure to sensitive or high-stress situations.

Pay: From $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 15 per week
