Role: SAP Integration Manager
Location: Calgary, AB
Canadian Citizen and PRs Only
Job Description: - S4 Evaluation and Roadmap
The SAP Integration Manager has responsibility for the process and technical solution integration design of the Roadmap across the SAP value streams and between various SAP and non-SAP on-premise and cloud systems.
- As Mexico currently operates in a separate SAP S/4 system and Canada & US operations will run on Business Suite 7, this road map project is foundational to bring one SAP system.
- SAP is retiring Business Suite 7 support at the end of 2027. Customers must complete a migration to the latest S/4 version prior to this date or pay for extended support.
The project approach will be a combination of Brownfield (‘Lift & Shift” Technical Migration) and selective transformation opportunities which deliver new capabilities. The primary objective of this project is to de-risk these transitions by completing thorough planning and design prior to starting the S/4 Upgrade Project in the latter half of 2025.
Project Objectives:
- Deliver roadmap and blueprint documentation that defines the application framework for the new technology components .This deliverable will ensure key decisions on solution architecture, product selection and design, and system integration are documented and understood reducing both the risk and cost of the future implementation phase.
- Provide IS and Business departments with a better understanding of the scope of change that S/4 will introduce, the associated impacts and business benefits.
- Enable all departments to understand and proactively plan for the staffing effort, timeline, and investment required to complete the migration, providing a strong foundational alignment between the Business and IS.
- Provide all the required information necessary to develop a robust RFP and position to perform a well-planned implementation provider selection process in 2025. This approach will position to optimize its negotiations with suppliers, improve the accuracy of vendor costing, and maximize the value of the upgrade project investment.
- Completion of prototype configuration for new platform technologies and prototyping high risk areas of the implementation will help ensure key decisions are well thought out prior to starting the upgrade project. This system design work can be used during the subsequent implementation phase as a foundational starting point for the system build work.
- Participation of IS staff will build internal SAP S/4 knowledge and expertise needed for project execution while simultaneously addressing retention concerns.
The SAP footprint is highly complex involving multiple on-premise and cloud hosted SAP applications (e.g. ECC, Event Management, Transportation Management, Business Warehouse, Success Factors, etc.). Furthermore, these processes and supporting systems are heavily integrated with upstream Rail Operations systems and supports key process functions in downstream systems.
This role will work collaboratively with technical and cross functional teams (SAP and Non-SAP) to gather requirements to plan the integration strategy, design, and estimate staffing and effort for implementation.
Position Accountabilities
- Ensures the solution design accounts for end-to-end process and technical integration requirements.
- Leads and engages in working sessions to analyze process and reporting requirements.
- Leadership and escalation point for resolution of cross-functional integration issues.
- Working with the Project Manager and Senior IS leadership, ensures the SAP Roadmap is developed in alignment with other IS portfolio IS and Business initiatives (e.g., the initiative to integrate Mexico within Rail Operations)
- Contributes input to the project planning for all integration work. Has accountability to ensure technical feasibility of all project plans and objectives.
- Leads scoping and estimation of all integration work.
- For the purposes of this initial Planning phase, this role will be responsible to lead the planning of the deployment options and staffing and effort estimation planning.
Position Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in a similar position or as a Senior SAP Leader.
- Minimum of 2-3 implementations or major version upgrades as a Techno-Functional team leader or Integration Manager.
- Previous experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Extremely effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience working in complex SAP environments, beyond simply core ECC or S/4.
- Experience working successfully in large, complex, fast-paced organizations.
- Proven experience with S/4.
Preferred Requirements:
- Previous Rail transportation experience
