Reporting to the Chief Transformation Officer, the Data Analyst will be responsible for the development and delivery of analytical solutions, use cases and insights for the Sun Life International data journey and future growth. As a member of the Data and Analytics team, the Data Analyst is integral to the success of the team. The Data Analyst partners closely with business partners to understand the business and their needs, and leverages data (internal and external) to provide high impact analytics and insights to accelerate data driven business decisions. The role is responsible to supporting business process innovation, leads the analysis and documentation of business requirements and maintains a portfolio of data and analytics initiatives for Sun Life International.
What you will be doing

Lead sessions with the business to gather requirements and get signoff

Produce and maintain business requirements documentation, source to target mappings and other data & analytics related documentation

Translate business requirements into data and reporting solutions

Develop, prioritize and sequence use cases with business stakeholders, and a portfolio of initiatives for the Data and Analytics team

Build and maintain strong internal network at all levels of the organization, relationships with other counterparts within the organization

Work with stakeholders to draw business insights from analytical outputs, and communicate recommendations and data insights

Establish automated reporting on key performance metrics (KPIs) and scorecard metrics using Tableau

Become a data subject matter expert by working with technology and business partners across the organization

Identify and implement ways to increase user knowledge and the value they derive from dashboards

Assist with data extracts and analysis as required to support high priority needs
Who you will be working with
This role is multi-faceted, involving collaboration across various regions, including Ireland, Canada, Bermuda, Asia and the US. The successful candidate will work closely with Sun Life International's teams and leaders across main functions, such as Strategic Delivery, Technology, Product Development, Operations, Finance, Actuarial, Risk, and Compliance. This position requires a versatile and adaptable individual who can navigate the diverse needs and perspectives of stakeholders in different countries and functions to drive the organization's data and analytics objectives.
What we are looking for

5+ years of work experience in a Data Analytics role, preferably in the insurance industry

Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, engineering or a related field

Experience writing complex SQL queries to analyze data and provide results to business users or stakeholders

Comfortable learning new applications and processes quickly with minimal direction
-
Experience using oral and written communication to share data driven insights in a clear, succinct manner
-
Strong partnering approach with a commitment to meeting business partners' needs and expectations.

Data visualization / dashboarding with Tableau or PowerBI

Data analysis / visualization using MS Excel

Data analysis and querying large datasets with SQL (e.g. SQL Server, PostgresSQL, Oracle, Snowflake)

Proficiency with other programming languages such as Python, R

Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities. Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.

Able to exercise judgement, set priorities, assess urgency and provide assessment based on data and analytical reasoning
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
