Kabir Family Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting newcomer families, youth, vulnerable individuals, and community members through outreach programs, food support initiatives, mental health advocacy, and community services.
Position Summary:
Kabir Family Foundation is seeking a dedicated and reliable Cook to prepare nutritious meals for community members, volunteers, and program participants through its community kitchen and outreach initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for meal preparation, kitchen organization, inventory management, and maintaining food safety standards in a non-profit community environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook complete meals for community programs, food distribution initiatives, and events
- Plan menus while considering dietary restrictions, allergies, cultural preferences, and nutritional requirements
- Assist in meal preparation for vulnerable individuals, newcomers, seniors, and low-income families served by the organization
- Maintain inventory and monitor food, kitchen supplies, and storage levels
- Ensure food quality, portion control, and sanitation standards are maintained at all times
- Clean kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, and workstations
- Assist with receiving and storing food donations and supplies
- Follow all public health, food handling, and workplace safety regulations
- Coordinate with staff and volunteers during meal service and community events
- Support the organization’s community outreach and food support programs as needed
Employment Requirements:
- Completion of secondary school required
- Previous experience as a cook, kitchen helper, or food service worker preferred
- Knowledge of food preparation and safe food handling practices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced community kitchen environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Food Handler Certification considered an asset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
