Safe Harbour is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and recovery-oriented Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join our Medically Supported Detox team. This role is central to ensuring clients receive safe, medically supervised withdrawal management, stabilization, and clear pathways to ongoing treatment and recovery supports while maintaining strong clinical standards, reporting accuracy, and staff accountability.
As part of one of the organization’s most complex and high-impact areas of care, the RN/RPN plays an essential role in supporting client safety, recovery outcomes, and the effectiveness of Safe Harbour’s broader continuum of care. This position supports individuals in moving from crisis toward recovery through trauma-informed, culturally safe, and person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, medically supervised withdrawal management and stabilization services
- Assess, monitor, and support clients experiencing substance use and mental health challenges
- Support transitions to treatment, recovery programming, housing, and community-based supports
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, reporting, and compliance with provincial standards and organizational policies
- Manage complex and high-acuity cases, including crisis intervention and escalation response
- Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, paramedics, Recovery Alberta, EMS, hospitals, treatment providers, and internal programs
- Maintain structured workflows for intake, triage, monitoring, medication coordination, stabilization, and discharge planning
- Promote dignity, equity, autonomy, and culturally safe care for all clients
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated, recovery-oriented care
- Support the effective use of Transitional Stabilization Beds within the continuum between detox, hospital, treatment, and housing
- Ensure trauma-informed and recovery-focused practices are consistently implemented
- Contribute to a stable, accountable, and high-performing clinical environment
Qualifications & Experience
- Active, unrestricted Alberta license as either:
- Registered Nurse (RN), or
- Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN)
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in medical detox, withdrawal management, addictions, mental health, or acute care settings
- Strong knowledge of withdrawal management protocols, medication administration, and recovery-oriented care
- Demonstrated experience with clinical documentation, reporting standards, and regulatory compliance
- Proven ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-acuity, and emotionally demanding environments
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification
- Clean Vulnerable Sector Check

Pay: $40.00-$43.00 per hour
