We are seeking Personal Support Workers to assist a female employer with Quadriplegia, to provide personal care and assistance with all activities of daily living.
Our client has a strong passion for art and enjoys computer games and anime.
The ideal candidate for this position should possess skills such as reliability, responsibility, patience, empathy, willingness to perform messy tasks, attention to detail, strong communication skills, physical strength, and a willingness to learn.
Location:
- Vancouver (Near Champlain Heights Community Centre)
Shifts:
- Sunday, Monday and Thursday
- 10:30pm to 6:30 am
Compensation:
Responsibilities will include (but may not be limited to):
- Daily personal care such as bathing, catheter care, and changing clothes and dressing
- Assessing skin for bed sores
- Administering medications and nebulizers
- Performing suction procedures
- Assisting with coughing, patting, and massaging for ease of breathing
- Transfer assistance with a sling and lift (bed to chair and chair to bed)
- Setting up laptop or tablet with a mouse
- Cleaning equipment and bed
- Attending to client's requests (e.g., offering milk with a straw, operating TV/DVD, providing blankets when cold)
Required Qualifications:
- Combination of healthcare education background and experience - required
- Openness to learn about equipment and client's specific care needs
- Possession of a driver's license - required
- Knowledge or willingness to learn about complex equipment (ventilator, diaphragmatic pacer, power wheelchair)
- Willingness to assist with tasks such as cleaning equipment and maintaining inventories for consumables
- Be comfortable working in an environment with a pet cat
