Human Resources Assistant (Part-time)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: A Human Resources Assistant is responsible for providing support to the Program Manager with HR administrative activities. This candidate is an enthusiastic, self-starter and is able to work well independently and within a team.

This is a contract position for four months, from January 6th 2020 to April 24th 2020.

Hours: 24 hours per week (3 days a week).

Creates employee job postings and post on HRIS system, Screens applicants resumes as required, manages the flow of paper and electronic applications. Perform phone screenings and schedules interviews for potential candidates.
Create application for the Canada Summer Jobs government program for summer students.
Participate in onboarding activities (set-up of new hires, send-out of welcome emails and orientation packages, coordination of first-day activities, setting up employee emails, introductions, etc.) and coordinate the background checks of new hires.
Assist with HR initiatives, including recreation of Health and Safety manual, and the creation and implementation of new employee policies and programs.
Create documentation and maintain accurate records for employee activity, including benefits administration, compensation, personal and job information, leaves, turnover, etc., in both hard and soft copy to ensure compliance.
Assist Program Manager with keeping the HR department and maintaining Habitat for Humanity standards.
Work on the development and update of Health and Safety program and the Policies and Procedures.
Perform other office administrative duties (ex. answering phone calls and emails, keeping track of staff's lieu time, send out email for weekly meetings, keep staff informed of new HR policies).


Completion of a two-three year Human Resources diploma, or similar program.
Knowledge of basic principles and procedures of HR and HRIS system (BambooHR).
Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential matters.
General knowledge of various employment laws and practices.
Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure.
Proficiency in MS Office & database software programs.
Attention to detail, accuracy and manage time efficiently.
Understanding of the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and the desire to promote it.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with customers, HFH Durham staff members and volunteers.
