Position Overview
Mott 32 Toronto is seeking a highly motivated, results-driven Catering Sales Manager to lead the sales and development of private dining, large events, corporate functions, and group bookings.
This is an active, revenue-generating sales position. The successful candidate will not simply wait for incoming inquiries or remain behind a desk. They will be expected to proactively identify new business opportunities, build relationships within the Toronto market, conduct sales calls and site visits, attend networking events, and execute strategic sales plans that bring new clients and measurable revenue to the restaurant.
The Catering Sales Manager will serve as the primary sales contact for the restaurant’s private dining rooms and event facilities. They will manage the complete sales process—from prospecting and initial client contact through proposal development, contract confirmation, event planning, execution, and post-event follow-up.
Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development and Proactive Sales
- Proactively generate new business for private dining rooms, large parties, corporate events, receptions, celebrations, and restaurant buyouts.
- Develop and execute outbound sales strategies to attract corporate accounts, event planners, luxury travel advisors, wedding planners, concierge teams, executive assistants, law firms, financial institutions, real estate companies, and other potential clients.
- Conduct regular sales calls, client visits, presentations, property tours, networking activities, and external business-development meetings.
- Build a qualified sales pipeline rather than relying primarily on incoming inquiries.
- Identify new business opportunities within Toronto’s corporate, luxury hospitality, wedding, entertainment, and social-event markets.
- Represent Mott 32 Toronto at relevant industry events, trade shows, networking functions, and community events.
- Develop strategic partnerships with nearby hotels, businesses, event professionals, and destination-management companies.
- Maintain consistent communication with past clients to encourage repeat bookings and referrals.
Private Dining and Event Sales
- Serve as the primary sales contact for all private dining rooms, group reservations, large-scale events, and restaurant buyouts.
- Respond to qualified event inquiries promptly, professionally, and with a strong focus on converting opportunities into confirmed business.
- Conduct restaurant tours and present the private dining rooms and event facilities to prospective clients.
- Prepare customized proposals, menus, quotations, contracts, event orders, and payment schedules.
- Negotiate event details while protecting profitability, minimum-spend requirements, and the restaurant’s brand positioning.
- Upsell premium menus, beverage packages, wine selections, reception enhancements, audiovisual requirements, and other event experiences.
- Maintain regular communication with clients throughout the planning process and ensure all event details are clearly documented.
- Conduct post-event follow-up to gather feedback, strengthen client relationships, and secure future business.
Sales Planning and Performance Management
- Establish monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets in collaboration with senior management.
- Prepare a detailed monthly sales action plan outlining target accounts, prospecting activities, confirmed business, revenue opportunities, and follow-up priorities.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and provide regular forecasts of potential and confirmed event revenue.
- Track key performance indicators, including:
- Private dining and event revenue
- Number of qualified sales leads
- Inquiry-to-booking conversion rate
- Average event value
- New corporate accounts acquired
- Repeat-client business
- Sales calls, site visits, and networking activities
- Future confirmed business and pipeline value
- Review sales performance against monthly targets and adjust strategies when results are below expectations.
- Analyze lost business, client feedback, competitor offerings, seasonal demand, and market trends.
- Recommend new event packages, menus, promotions, and sales initiatives based on market demand.
- Prepare regular sales reports and present results, opportunities, and action plans to senior management.
Event Coordination and Execution
- Act as the main client contact from the initial sales inquiry through event completion.
- Prepare accurate banquet event orders and ensure all event details are communicated to restaurant operations, culinary, beverage, finance, and marketing teams.
- Coordinate menus, beverage selections, room layouts, guest counts, timing, deposits, billing requirements, and special requests.
- Work closely with the General Manager, Executive Chef, restaurant managers, and service team to ensure seamless event execution.
- Attend important events when necessary to support the client and ensure expectations are met.
- Conduct pre-event and post-event meetings for significant functions.
- Ensure each event reflects Mott 32’s luxury service standards and attention to detail.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate decision-makers, event planners, executive assistants, concierge teams, wedding professionals, and repeat guests.
- Maintain an organized database of prospects, current accounts, past clients, and future opportunities.
- Schedule regular follow-ups with key accounts and develop personalized plans to generate repeat business.
- Deliver professional, timely, and polished communication throughout the client journey.
- Handle client concerns with urgency, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for Mott 32 Toronto and its private dining experience.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of catering sales, private dining sales, event sales, or hospitality business-development experience in a luxury hotel, premium restaurant, fine-dining establishment, or comparable event venue.
- Proven record of achieving sales targets and generating new event or catering revenue.
- Strong existing relationships within Toronto’s corporate, hospitality, event-planning, wedding, or luxury-market sectors are considered a significant asset.
- Demonstrated ability to prospect, conduct outbound sales, develop new accounts, and close business.
- Experience selling private dining rooms, corporate events, group dining, receptions, weddings, or full-venue buyouts.
- Strong understanding of event contracts, deposits, minimum spends, cancellation policies, menu planning, and banquet event orders.
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, relationship-building, and closing skills.
- Professional and confident when meeting senior executives, event planners, luxury clients, and VIP guests.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple events, deadlines, and client relationships simultaneously.
- Strong financial awareness, including pricing, revenue targets, profitability, and sales forecasting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and customer relationship management or event-management systems.
- Knowledge of reservation systems such as OpenTable is an asset.
- Knowledge of premium food, wine, spirits, and luxury hospitality is an asset.
- Available to attend client meetings, networking events, site visits, and restaurant events outside standard office hours when required.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
