The Maintenance Manager will report to the Facilities Manager and will assume responsibility for maintaining the facilities and ensuring the layout and machinery used to produce materials and goods run at maximum efficiency and output. The Maintenance Manager will lead the maintenance function in providing both a reactive and proactive maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities structure and systems, overseeing the continuous improvement of the technical processes and executing short- and long-term strategic plans as directed.
Sweetgrass is a 100,000 + sq. ft. cannabis production facility located in Strathcona County, Alberta and is regulated by the Cannabis Act (Canada) and its Regulations. Ø Increase site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery, mean time between failure and downtime reduction, and manage and implement improvement plans, driving KPI’s, and ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to;
Ø Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Maintenance activities;
Ø Schedule, train, supervise and motivate Maintenance Department staff, including Technicians, Coordinators and Associates; conduct performance management when required; effectively delegate any maintenance issues to be resolved;
Ø Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, ensuring full preventative maintenance is carried out;
Ø Develop and hold responsibility for facility maintenance budget; prepare budgets and forecasts and all CAPEX proposals while ensuring compliance with legal standards; present quotes to General Counsel and receive approval;
Ø Conduct ongoing risk assessments of processes and tasks in department;
Ø Inspect and distribute work orders daily, weekly and monthly as necessary; set department objectives/KPIs and report on achievement of targets;
Ø Schedule and manage contractors, consultants, and external vendors to ensure efficiency of process and timely completion of required work; coordinate work performed by external vendors; ensure they meet legal and company requirements;
Ø Perform daily walkthroughs of the facility, inspect equipment, machinery and infrastructure and creating checklists for work pending; prioritize maintenance and repairs of company equipment and parts;
Ø Ensure efficient repair schedules and review repair cost estimates;
Ø Perform preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and equipment (including software programming, HVAC, refrigeration, etc.); ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements routinely;
Ø Control and monitor inventory; manage systems and equipment data storage and maintain high levels of standards and accuracy;
Ø Manage the process of new machinery and equipment introduction from drawing up the specification, to managing suppliers through to full installation in collaboration with all relevant parties;
Ø Develop and implement safety policies and procedures for the Maintenance Department in collaboration with the Facilities Manager; and
Ø Undertake continuous training and developments, staying current in technological trends and maintenance best practices.
WHAT YOU BRING:
Ø Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering strongly preferred;
Ø Apprenticeship or trade seal in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical or relevant discipline from accredited institution;
Ø Strong ability to interpret blueprints, specifications and schematics;
Ø Excellent knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems;
Ø Understanding of manufacturing and procurement/supply chain;
Ø Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and FiiX; and
Ø Exceptional communication and organization skills.
You Are TECHNICALLY PROFICIENT and FOCUSED, capable of understanding complex systems and infrastructures.
You Are an EXCEPTIONAL MULTITASKER, with the ability to manage multiple dynamic projects under tight deadlines and rigorous regulatory scrutiny.
You Are a PROBLEM SOLVER and SOLUTIONS ORIENTED, with strong conflict resolution skills, ability to manage up and down and comfortable in navigating the entrepreneurial mindset with tact and diplomacy.
Ø 7-10 years’ experience in a maintenance management role;
Ø Experience managing Profit and Loss (P&L) responsibilities for maintenance;
Ø Experience with HVAC and refrigeration,
Ø Demonstrated experience with generic packaging and labelling equipment and automation controls; and
Ø Strong experience in budget development and management.
