Role Summary: The General Accountant reports to the Controller and plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of our organization. Your responsibilities will focus on managing accounts receivable processes and conducting insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Key Accountability: Accounts Receivable
Duty Statements
- Prepare and send invoices for shipped orders
- Perform daily cash management duties, including the recording of bank deposits, and posting of cash to the accounts receivable sub-ledger
- Obtain, validate and post customer deductions in compliance with company policies and procedures
- Reconcile/follow-up on customer past due invoices, unauthorized deductions & payment discrepancies by contacting clients
- Produce, review, and distribute collection reports
- Collect new customer information and perform credit reference checks as per company procedures.
- Assess the risk level and credit worthiness of customers and provide recommendations
- Review existing accounts credit history and assess whether current credit is appropriate
- Maintain customer master files
- Handle customer inquiries for vendor/bank info. and certificate of insurance updates
- Suspend delinquent accounts as per credit policies.
Key Accountability: General Accounting
Duty Statements
- Month end analysis of AR sub-ledger
- Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and Journal Entries
- Calculate and prepare commission reports
- Produce and analyze sales reports including customer and product profitability reports to validate and ensure data completeness
- Assist in the interim and annual audit requirements.
- Backup support for order desk and accounts payable
- Other tasks as assigned by Controller
Key Accountability: Financial Analysis and Reporting
Duty Statements
- Analyze historical and current financial data to understand the company’s financial status and provide forecasting support for guiding business investments and overall financial strategy
- Develop predictive financial models to support organizational decision-making
- Study industry-specific research and available data to predict trends
- Analyze processes to identify gaps that can improve profit margins
- Evaluate and analyze capital expenditures, depreciation, proposals, investment opportunities, rate of return, profit plans, operating records, financial statements, etc. including lease v purchase on deals
- Organize data into accessible reports and perform various types of analysis using key metrics such as yearly growth, return on assets, return on equity and earnings per share
- Assist cost accountant to validate and create price models
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting
- Understanding of basic principles of finance, accounting, and bookkeeping
- Minimum two years of accounting experience
- Experience with food processing and grocery retail customers preferred
- Experience working with Syspro software or equivalent ERP software
- Intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency
- Proven analytical / quantitative skills
- Able to prioritize workload, understand a sense of urgency and effectively meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills in English written and verbal
- Able to collaborate and communicate with cross functioning departments.
- Highly accurate, great attention to detail and an aptitude for problem solving.
