Staff Accountant | $65,000–$80,000 | Toronto (Hybrid)
The best time to learn how a business actually works is before somebody promotes you away from the details.
This Staff Accountant opportunity is with an established Toronto CPA firm where you’ll get exposure to considerably more than simply preparing the same year-end files every month.
You’ll work across accounting, financial statements, corporate tax and assurance while supporting a varied portfolio of privately owned businesses and entrepreneurs. As you develop, there’s also the opportunity to become involved in the wider advisory work that happens when clients need more from their accountant than a completed tax return.
Why this role stands out:
- $65,000–$80,000 salary
- Hybrid working
- Toronto location
- Broad accounting and tax exposure
- Audit and assurance experience
- Privately owned and entrepreneurial client base
- Direct exposure to experienced CPAs
- Opportunity to build client-facing experience
- Wider business advisory exposure
- Strong environment for CPA development
- Clear progression toward Senior Accountant
What you’ll be doing:
- Prepare working papers and year-end financial statements
- Assist with compilation, review and audit engagements
- Prepare corporate income tax returns
- Support personal and other tax compliance work where required
- Complete account reconciliations and adjusting entries
- Assist with financial reporting and year-end accounting matters
- Communicate with clients to gather information and resolve queries
- Support senior team members on more complex accounting and tax files
- Assist with CRA correspondence and client requests
- Develop an understanding of clients’ businesses rather than simply completing individual tasks
- Gain exposure to areas such as forecasting, financing, tax planning and business advisory as your experience develops
What they’re looking for:
- 2+ years of Canadian CPA firm/public accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- CPA designated, enrolled in CPA PEP or planning to pursue the CPA designation
- Experience preparing compilation engagements and financial statements
- Corporate tax return preparation experience
- Understanding of ASPE
- Audit or review engagement exposure would be an asset
- Comfortable communicating directly with clients
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Someone looking to build broad public accounting experience rather than specialize too early
- Applicants must have previous CPA firm/public accounting experience
