Contributing to the development of a caring, competent, and accountable Nursing Team, the Registered Nurse assesses and plans the care of residents, coordinates and supervises others who deliver direct resident care, ensuring that a high standard of care is provided at all times. All duties are performed in a manner that respects the dignity, worth, needs for self-respect and self-determination of the individual, and in ways that promote maximum personal and functional independence.

Education, Experience, and Abilities:
- Currently registered or licensed with the BCCNM
- Holds a current CPR and First Aid certificate.
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience in geriatrics.
- Possesses the personal qualities and attitudes that respect and maintain the dignity and individuality of the residents.
- Presents in good health, free from any communicable diseases, and physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties in the working environment, e.g., standing, bending, and lifting heavy residents.
- Demonstrates the willingness to maintain own physical, psychological, and emotional fitness to practice.
- Ability to work as a team leader and demonstrates proficient supervisory skills.
- Ability to communicate competently; understanding and delivering written and verbal instruction.
- Possesses basic computer skills. Experience working with and/or a willingness to learn InterRAI MDS Assessments and online charting is required.
- Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relations by displaying tact, courtesy, and patience with residents, families, staff, visitors, and volunteers.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assumes Team Leader role and resident assignment responsibility as directed by the Director of Care (DOC) or designate. These include but not limited to supervise, direct and assist LPNs and care aides on procedures and assignments ensuring the provision of a high standard of resident care at all times; documenting performance concerns; to identify and recommend training/skill enhancement for subordinate staff..
- Establishes and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care plans and treatments, and informs the Director of Care (DOC) and/or the resident’s physician and family of significant changes in the condition of the resident.
- Observes, assesses, reports, records, evaluates and communicates pertinent information of residents’ needs and/or changes to members of the Multidisciplinary Team.
- Provides direct nursing care, including administration of medications, medical treatments, and documented procedures as per facility policies and procedures.
- Assists DOC with the admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.
- Assists with the coordination of resident care conferences ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to resident care.
- Ensures residents’ rights of privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
- Monitors nursing team performance by undertaking ongoing audits of resident care activities and documentation records.
- Assists in the orientation of the resident, family, and new team members.
- Promotes safe work practices and ensures team members comply with all legislative standards and organization requirements.
- Completes InterRAI MDS Assessments and develops care plans with the multi-disciplinary care team for the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual care of the residents.
- Maintains resident records to the acquired standards.
- Assists in the orientation of the resident, family, and new team members.
- Serves on committees and attends meetings as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of and complies with all facility policies and procedures.
- Promotes and maintains a positive professional attitude and appropriate communication with co-workers, volunteers, residents and family members, and other stakeholders.
- Participates in fire and emergency drills and coordinates staff activities in such drills and during real-time emergencies.
