Under the direct supervision of the PT and OT, the OTA/PTA functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team in meeting the needs of the residents. The TA carries out the rehabilitative treatment plans/programs and assists the PT/OT in monitoring and evaluating Residents’ progression.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of resident care programs aimed at increasing and/or maintaining optimal independence, enhancement of quality of life, and the facilitation of the resident’s ability to be self-directed.
- Assist in the overall physical observation, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of resident status.
- Assist in the creation of exercise programs to maintain the highest level of resident function.
- Demonstrate the techniques of activities to residents as directed by the therapist, such as the use of prescribed treatment/adaptive devices (i.e. wheelchairs, walkers, positioning and offloading tools).
- Set up and adapt equipment such as changing wheelchair backs and adjusting wheelchair height as instructed by the therapist.
- Maintain inventory of equipment and perform general cleaning duties as required. Provide input regarding the purchase of new equipment/supplies, general maintenance and repair of equipment.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Therapist Assistant diploma or have equivalent education and/or experience as a Therapy Assistant.
- The ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Physically capable of lifting and transferring residents.
- Excellent communication, documentation, organizational, and decision-making skills a must.
- Compassionate, supportive, patient, and positive attitude required.
- A genuine interest in working with the elderly.
- Continuing care experience an asset.
