Title: Language Instructor

Program: Immigrant Settlement & Integration Program (ISIP)

Nature: Casual

Number of Positions: Multiple

Salary: $26.78/hour plus 15 minutes preparation time per one hour of class time

Multiple Locations: Richmond, Surrey, Tri-Cities and Vancouver

Classes Available: Literacy to LINC 8 (varies across regions)

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and delivers CLB-aligned and student-centered lesson plans according to the students’ needs and according to the S.U.C.C.E.S.S.S. curriculum
  • Teaches in an engaging and effective manner, respectful of student diversity and needs
  • Maintains accurate records, including attendance sheets and submits reports promptly to ensure students’ progress effectively
  • Prepares online lesson plans according to what is taught online
  • Assesses students using CLB indicators and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)
  • Plans for appropriate field trips and guest speakers
  • Creates a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A TESL Canada recognized TESL/TESOL certificate or diploma if the undergraduate degree is not in TESL/TESOL
  • At least 2 years’ experience teaching adult ESL, particularly community-based settlement ESL
  • Experience teaching ESL adult students using student-centered and task-based approaches
  • Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment.

Job Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of CLB-based language instruction
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, and interactive Internet usage, including teaching platforms such as Moodle
  • Working knowledge of and ability to use interactive white boards
  • Knowledge of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)
