Knowledge & Expertise Required
The successful candidate will be tasked with researching, collecting and analysing information which helps the Company to make effective and profitable decisions whilst building a successful investment portfolio. You will handle multiple projects of the full investment cycle, from concept through exit. The Investment Analyst will prepare ad hoc analyses for internal investment decisions to buy, hold, sell or refinance. Some of the primary responsibilities of this role are:
Examine and assess economic and market trends, earnings prospects, financial statements and various other indicators and factors to determine suitable investment strategies
Participate in a sound portfolio-management strategy by providing the necessary data for the decision-making process.
Liaise with fund managers
Monitor closely financial press and keep a track of market trends, opportunities, risks and new investment products
Follow-up on investments using appropriate data bases, customer interaction, internet sites, research reports and other investment resources
Assist in account updates by providing financial, forecasting and statistical analysis and bringing potential issues to management’s attention
Ensure that new and existing investment files are properly documented by monitoring investments, amendments, disbursements, etc.
Assist in the preparation of presentations targeted at senior management
Perform and synthesize research to be used in modelling, competitive analysis, industry analysis, negotiation support, etc.
Prepare and analyze investment data for strategic review by the President
Review of due diligence material
Maintain research & transaction database
Prepare financing packages for lenders and assist with the ongoing management current financing database.
Formulate internal valuations and forward-looking projections in accordance with strategic asset plans
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Three years proven working experience as an Investment Analyst
Strong numeric, quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Ability to assess the effectiveness of new technologies, as well as the size and rate of adoption of new markets, and the competitive forces of new product launches
Degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics or Economics is required
Strong computer skills with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Proven ability to learn about new businesses quickly
Ability to synthesize tremendous amount of information/data
Experience in a venture capital, private equity or other financial environment focused on investing in technology companies is an asset
Completion or enrollment in the CFA program or similar preferred
