Engineers and Geoscientists BC is currently searching for a Communications Specialist (External) to join our team in Burnaby on a 1-year contract!
The Communications Specialist plans and executes a range of external communication and engagement activities and programs to support the strategic goals of the organization, build confidence and trust in the organization, and encourage participation in key governance processes. This includes developing and implementing communication and outreach strategies, managing the organization’s social media strategy and channels, and providing support for media relations and events.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Plans and executes communication and engagement programs and activities including general communication support to internal and external audiences; identifies opportunities for improvement and makes adjustments where required.

Works collaboratively with other areas of the organization to ensure the effective implementation and application of communication and engagement plans, services and initiatives; identifies and/or resolves potential issues.

Provides primary support for the planning and execution of long-term communication plans that build public awareness, confidence, and trust in the organization and support initiatives that advance the organization’s Strategic Plan.

Manages the organization’s social media strategy and channels. This includes creating content, responding to inquiries, producing copy for others, tracking key metrics, and identifying opportunities to make improvements.

Supports the organization’s media relations efforts by tracking media inquiries, compiling reports of key coverage, providing support for media preparation for interviews, drafting key messages, and tracking metrics. Identifies media trends relevant to the organization. Writes, publishes, and distributes news releases on behalf of the organization.

Provides primary support for the planning and execution of communications strategies for the organization’s governance processes, including Board nominations and elections and Bylaw changes and updates. Provides communications support for the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Provides primary support for the planning and execution of long-term communications strategies related to the organization’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion efforts.

Reviews and audits key public communications to ensure alignment with the organization’s brand and corporate communication style guide.

Other duties as assigned by direct leader and, as appropriate, members of the departmental leadership team.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
The successful applicant will possess the following:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

5-7 years of progressive experience in communications or public relations.

Experience in an association or regulatory environment is preferred.

Experience in event planning is preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

This role offers a competitive compensation and benefits program including a salary within our hiring range of $85,000 to $94,500.
