Our St. John’s, NL facility is currently seeking Labourers to join our team. Helpers/laborers are accountable to provide support on our fleet of hydro-excavation/line flushing vacuum trucks. Successful candidates will receive in-house training and duties would include but not be limited to;
Job Duties
- Ensuring that all equipment and systems are being operated to GFL standards
- Working with high pressure water
- Hydro-excavation of soil/material in exposing water/sewer lines for repairs
- Flushing of sewer mains using high pressure water
- Cleaning of catch basins
- Assisting in the offloading of debris from truck debris tanks
- General maintenance in upkeep of vehicles (greasing/cleaning)
- Adhering to all applicable operating procedures
- Participating in a rotational on-call support schedule as required
- Perform other operational duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to participate in rotational on-call support schedule as required
- Lift objects/equipment up to 50lbs
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
A Class 1/3 Operator is responsible for safely driving and operating tandem axle vacuum trucks. They work in various environments, including refineries, industrial sites, marine ports and for environmental emergency responses. Operators also provide feedback to supervisors regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems. They will also occasionally take part in mentoring/training others to operate the equipment.
Requirements:
- A valid Class 1/3 license, manual transmission, air brake
- Ability to work evening shift, 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM
- Pass pre-employment D&A testing
- Manual dexterity, ability to lift/push/pull 50+ lbs hoses required.
- Out of town, rotation and overtime work as required.

- Often requires working long hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call for emergency response

A "Day in the Life" of a Mechanic at GFL Environmental:
Safely operate, repair, and maintain our diverse fleet, including Hydro-vacs, dry vacs, tankers, vac trucks, roll-offs, box trucks, pickups, flat deck trailers, Jet Routers, and more!
Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, disassemble, inspect, and replace worn or broken parts
Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, clutches, electrical and pneumatic systems, gearboxes, hydraulics, cooling systems, exhaust, brakes, suspensions, lights, etc., on a variety of yard equipment, heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and other equipment
Diagnose and repair engines and engine support systems, steering, suspension and brake systems, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Local repair and road call (emergency response)
Write service reports and record analysis
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have Truck and Transport Red Seal certification, or be nearing completion of Red Seal requirements
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Able to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly
Reporting directly to the District Manager, this position is responsible for the creation of daily
schedules and works closely with Operations to meet client service needs.
Job Duties
Responsible for dispatch operations of industrial cleaning services for the St John's by way of constant communication between clients, operators, supervisors, and management staff
Responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating assets and human resources
Responsible for scheduling work taking into consideration employee skill, ability, required mandatory training while working within the scope of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Acts as a liaison coordinating between our various operations
Ensure maximum utilization on all equipment (trucks, trailers, etc.)
Ensure maximum utilization on all human resources
Acts as the first point of contact for all incoming calls and inquiries to dispatch
Creates and distributes the daily operational schedule to operations management
Responsible for coordination of equipment maintenance and repairs
Responsible for processing work orders
Creates and maintains a zero harm environment by ensuring all environmental, health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times
Participates in the after-hours/on-call program
Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings
Requirements
3 – 5 years of Dispatch /field operations experience, preferable in an industrial environment
Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience
Knowledge and understanding of TDGA, Reg. 347/558 and related regulations for handling and transportation of hazardous waste preferred
Related industrial cleaning experience, including vacuum services, hydro blasting and tank cleaning considered an asset
Leadership skills with Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaboration with cross-functional teams
Promoting and supporting all safety initiatives when performing roles and responsibilities
Computer software skills are essential; experience working with ERP and automated dispatching software systems considered an asset
Superior organizational, decision-making and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Familiarity with the capabilities of waste related equipment
Must be flexible and can easily adapt to changing priorities with an ability to multi-task
Experience working with a unionized workforce and a collective bargaining agreement considered an asset
High energy, self-motivated and must have a positive attitude
