NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR (24-MONTH CONTRACT)

POSTING NUMBER: 103255

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $77,201.00 - $86,851.00

MAXIMUM OF SALARY RANGE: $96,501.00

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible to install, administer and support the Corporation’s Windows, Linux, VMware, Cisco UCS server hardware, NetApp & IBM storage arrays and other Data Centre technologies both on premises and the Cloud. This includes all aspects of server administration (procurement, scripting, upgrades, modifications, enhancements, monitoring, troubleshooting, patching and maintaining & documentation, scripting server management) to ensure the City’s server environment remains stable and available.

Operational. Implements, tunes, maintains, enhances and troubleshoots all elements that make up the City’s data center infrastructure including, but not limited to, Cisco UCS blade servers, HP blade & rack-mount servers, IBM storage arrays, NetApp storage arrays, space and capacity management. Installs, configures, tunes, patches and upgrades server operating systems including Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2016 as well as Oracle Enterprise Linux as per City standards. Maintains, tunes, enhances and upgrades the City’s VMware based private cloud virtual infrastructure. Troubleshoot and resolve server, system, and application performance issues. Use of scripting tools to automate processes is and asset. Proactively monitors environment performance, security, and capacity and provide as well as providing recommendations for new technologies and improvements. Maintains detailed Visio style diagrams of the data center infrastructure. Manages space and capacity planning as well as tracking and asset management for all items entering or leaving the data center. Prepares and maintains general installation & upgrade documentation, SOPs, procedural manuals and hardware & software inventories. Adheres to City’s existing change management methodologies and Request for Change procedures. Uses and maintains existing applications & toolsets to support the sever infrastructure and as well as makes recommendations for new toolsets.
Teamwork. As part of a team, works closely with internal IT staff, business partners, and external companies to ensure new requirements are properly understood, scoped, and implemented as scheduled. Participates on project teams as a technical resource. Maintains awareness of developments in technology and standards, and provide guidance and recommendations. Evaluates and automates routine processes and task suing Microsoft PowerShell.
Technical Environment. Hardware: Cisco UCS blades, HP blade and rack-mount servers, IBM XIV and NetApp storage systems. Software: Microsoft Windows 2008 & 2012, 2016, Oracle Enterprise Linux, VMware vCloud 6.x Suite, Microsoft System Centre Suite, Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite, Solarwinds Orion NPM, Wireshark, BlueCat IPAM, PowerShell Scripting

SELECTION CRITERIA:
University degree or diploma in Computer Science or equivalent combination of training and work experience
3+ years hands-on experience supporting Microsoft Windows servers, preference will be given to candidates with an MCSE certification
3-5 years hands-on experience implementing and supporting VMware VSphere & vCloud platforms, preference will be given to candidates with a VCP5-Cloud or higher certification
2-3 years hands-on experience supporting Cisco UCS blade technology, SAN technologies, preferably NetApp or IBM and Microsoft PowerShell
Strong troubleshooter who can quickly pin-point issues and make recommendations for resolution
Strong desire to improve the stability, fault fault-tolerance, and performance of the City’s server infrastructure
Willingness to constantly upgrade knowledge, skill set, and experience through formal training and self-learning
Required to work variable hours as required to support a 24x7 environment.
Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and a car for driving to remote sites
Ability to create detailed diagrams using Microsoft Visio
Ability to create automation scripts using Microsoft PowerShell
Understanding of modern server operating systems & environments especially Blade technologies and the virtualization of servers using VMware
Hands-on experience supporting HP blade & rack-mount servers
Hands-on experience using FrontRange’s IT Service Management application
