The Plant Science Research Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating research within the R&D Department. The chosen applicant will design and conduct phylogenetic and phylogenomic studies with use of morphological and molecular tools to understand specific growing characteristics, secondary metabolite composition of cannabis cultivars and plant health issues. They will also be responsible for design/oversight of protocols for molecular plant testing, DNA sequencing (both Sanger and Next Generation Sequencing - NGS) and PCR. The applicant will be responsible for analysis and interpretation of experimental results and making recommendations to the Operations Department, track and document information on plant science activities in all stages of cycles throughout the Flowr growing facilities.


Lead and participate in plant science related projects.
Manage investigations of cannabis molecular biology and systematics.
Manage investigations of plant -microbiome relationships.
Facilitate diagnostic testing as required with external laboratories and quality department.
Provide analysis and interpretation of testing results and recommends management.
Work collaboratively with the Cultivation team.
Lead multi-disciplinary teams to solve challenges and implement solutions.
Develop work instructions and standard operating procedures for the R&D department.
Provide guidance to cultivation personnel for collection of plant tissues for testing.
Maintain paper records and database platforms as necessary for the Cultivation department.
Other duties as assigned.

Required PhD in Plant Science,
Experienced in researching plant taxonomy and systematics,
Experienced in researching molecular biology, phylogenetics, phylogenomics, and DNA barcoding.
Bioinformatics experience (Specifically with DNA alignment and sequence editing software with exposure to both short and long read sequencing technologies),
Experience working within Integrated Pest Management,
Molecular biology laboratory experience,
NGS library preparation considered an asset,
Experience with plant morphology, physiology and anatomy,
Experience with biological collections (herbaria),
Strong leadership skills.
Strong process management skills,
Advanced-level skillset in Microsoft Suite and other database systems, and
Fluent in Portuguese is an asset.
