Job Summary
The Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations (CT6FN) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Non-Insured Health Benefits Navigator (NIHB) to join our Health Team. Reporting to the Health Policy lead, the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Navigator will provide guidance, foster collaboration, and support the nations of Treaty No. 6 in assisting individuals and communities in accessing health services covered by non-insured health benefit programs.
Duties
- Serve as a first point of contact for communities, organizations, and individuals to facilitate access to the Non-Insured Health Benefits Program and provide support in addressing NIHB denials and appeals.
- Collaborate with the NIHB regional office on programs/projects/initiatives that would improve awareness and access to the NIHB Program and better integrate health services.
- Liaise with First Nation health services, professional organizations, and health service providers to assist eligible clients in navigating the NIHB Program and related benefits access.
- ·Develop a communication strategy and implement approaches to improve First Nation awareness and understanding of the NIHB Program.
- Maintain confidentiality of all clients and records.
- Research and prepare analyses, backgrounders, and recommendations on any proposed changes that would impact Treaty Rights to Health and the benefits to First Nations citizens.
- provide support as required and assigned by senior management to the CT6FN Chiefs, and NIHB navigators, i.e. workshops, meetings, and conferences.
- participate in the development and implementation of goals and objectives in NIHB and to provide recommendations to the Treaty 6 Chiefs.
- Provide monthly reports on activities undertaken
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma in a related field, i.e., Social Work, First Nations governance, humanities (English, history, psychology, political science). Equivalencies may be considered based on one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a similar role, preferably in First Nations communities, or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
- Experience in client service or case management, preferably in a healthcare or social services setting.
- Knowledge of data sources, current literature, and emerging trends and developments in First Nations issues and rights.
- Knowledge of indigenous health issues, cultural competence, and sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening, verbal articulation, and written correspondence.
- Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
- The ability to communicate in one of the affiliated First Nations of the Confederacy (Cree, Nakoda, Dene, Saulteaux) is a definite asset.
- Preference will be given to Treaty Six First Nation Members.
