Taylor View Towers is a vibrant seniors’ living community in north-central Red Deer, serving over 300 residents through a person-directed care model rooted in the Eden Alternative philosophy. Summary Statement:
The Cook supports the food services team. The cook assists in food preparation and planning, food service, and resident engagement to provide a meaningful experience to residents and Employee Care Partners.
Relationships:
Reports to: Food Services Supervisor

External Contacts: Delivery Personnel, Vendors, External Contractors
Key Responsibility Areas :
Leadership:
- Assists the Food Services Supervisor in supervising and managing the activities of the food services team.
- Supports the Food Services Supervisor in coordinating and overseeing care partner planning and service time scheduling, including overtime and time off requests
- Supports the Food Services Supervisor in the following processes: recruitment, interviewing, hiring, retention, promotion, orientation, and training.
Food Preparation & Planning:
Orders, receives, and coordinates inventory management for the operation of the food services area- Prepares and organizes all high-quality meals following the menu cycle and prepares off-menu items to accommodate modified diets
- Complies with Service Area Checklists and verifies sign-off
Food Service:
- Provides services in accordance with best practices, our Well-Being Strategies, quality improvement guidelines, and regulations/standards
- Verifies all Food Service (indoor/outdoor) areas for cleanliness according to required standards and checklists
- Audits and collects ongoing resident/family feedback from the Resident Food Services Committee
Training and Administration:
- Provides orientation and development to care partners
- Attends educational workshops to inform the team on trends and advancements in food preparation and nutrition
- Participates in various committees and meetings providing advice/input
- Maintains records required by the Community, auditors, and funders as required
Health & Safety:
- Leads and completes responsibilities outlined in the Emergency Management Plan, Infection Control protocol, WHMIS, and Health & Safety Wellness Strategies
- Attains and maintains ongoing compliance with appropriate regulatory standards
- Conducts regular audits to ensure Taylor View Towers is prepared for inspections
- Reduces safety hazards, accidents, and injuries as well as investigates Care Partner incidents, and implements corrective action as required
Projects and Assignments:
- Performs a variety of other projects and assignments as required.
Qualifications:
Education
· Grade 12 Diploma or recognized equivalent is required.
- Formal Food Service Training Required (Red Seal from an approved Food Service School)
Experience
- Experience leading others in a food service environment is required
- Experience in the Food Service Industry as a Sous Chef
- Experience training others is desired
- Experience with Food Safety Practices and Safe Work Practices and Procedures
Certifications:
- Food Safe Certificate
- First Aid and CPR preferred
